I had this on my car for a day, never ran any air through it, never drove it with this on it. Is this okay to get the PTC fitting up through the trunk floor so I can attach the air line to the valve? (Ignore the compression fitting on the elbow)
with that setup air pressure isnt a problem so if it doesnt leak and you can stand to look at it ........its ok
If you can stand to look at it is the main issue. Technically the issue is since moisture will get into the air system(unavoidable) you may encounter rust in the black iron pipe. Over time that will migrate and get into other parts so it's best to avoid that material.
Now there's an answer I can use. Thanks. Any suggestions on a suitable replacement for the iron pipe? I may be able to fit the airline down onto the bag, but, I'm wondering what the min. bend radius is for the 1/2" airline. Anybody know?
If your using the plastic line and the push in fittings they make 90 degree elbows so then you use a straight fitting and a piece of tubing then throw a 90 on it and your good to go.. What size fitting ? 1/4 pipe what size line 1/4 ,3/8 ?? Ive got 90 degree fittings here i think. I know for sure i have a bunch of 1/4" stuff but i dont know about the 3/8 line size for 90's Dave
Ok i see your talking 1/2 inch line .. I can look and see if ive got a 1/2 90 if that will help you. Dave
Ditto on the use of push loc's. "If" you have to use a rigid standoff to get it up through the floor I would suggest short section of stainless pipe instead of the iron. Can get it through any plumbing or hardware supply. I personally try to keep everything tight to the bag and hidden if possible. Sometimes the easiest route for access is the biggest pain in the *** late.
There's my problem, I've got a span of about 3" or 4" between the top of the bag and the floor. I think the 90* jusjunk is talking about will solve my problem, I'll just need to find a grommet to go around the line coming through the floor.
Would those be 1940s or 1950s airbags? The HAMB is a site for TRADITIONAL hot rods - PLEASE RESPECT THAT. There is nothing traditional about airbags.
Check with who ever you get your fittings through and ask them if they carry bulkhead fittings. Its a threaded tube with PTL on both ends and two jamb nuts around it to attach it to your floor. Also, if you are using PTL fittings, make sure that they are all metal. The plastic/partial plastic ones will leak.
There always has to be "that guy" If it is not your thing, ignore it. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff!
i belive i have counted two 40-54 chevies with out air ride. customs have air ride or hydros. If you really want to split hairs using a computer to BLOg is not to traditional either. We are Non-conformists.
Lighten up, Francis!!! It my ****ing car and my ****ing money and I'll build it how ever I ****ing want to. If you don't like it, GO SCREW! P.S. Jusjunk is getting me fixed up. What a guy.
I have never run bags, but I do know a little about plumbing pipe. There are lengths just like that with a plastic inner liner made for the first connection to a hot water heater. Something about the first length of material rusting like crazy no matter what the metal, so it's isolated. Cheap and at any hardware store.
good ol Ionization, and discharge, My man! Same thing will happen to an aluminum manifold on a block that isn't well grounded. sacrificial anode theory, applied to expensive parts!
No ****? Had an ole torkerII on a 305 that wouldn't stop crudding up... green... funk... rustish powder.... Well, then again I did get rid of the car when the trans crossmember rotted in half and dropped the ****** on the highway, so it never was in too good of shape.
"Would those be 1940s or 1950s airbags? The HAMB is a site for TRADITIONAL hot rods - PLEASE RESPECT THAT. There is nothing traditional about airbags." Here is a WAY non TRAD vehicle that ran airbags!?!? I also think there where a few Cadillacs in the 50's that ran them stock!!
I would use all br*** honestly. It won't rust with moisture. And you can get long br*** ******s, and br*** 90 in cast or machined. Try Napa for the machined parts, Home Depot or Lowes will have br*** ******s and cast 90s.
I bought some push fittings from Granger, however most leaked. Make sure you get the all metal fittings. Try suicidedoors.com.
They shouldnt leak .. The br*** ones still have a plastic top with an oring inside to seal. The only ones that dont are the all br*** nickle plated ones.. **** my harley has br*** and plastic and they dont leak. One thing that causes em to leak is the hose not being squarely cut on the end. I use 2 brands at work SMC and Norgren. Im gonna send him 2 smc 1/2 90's and we shall see how they work.. Dave
go away. if you really gave a ****, perhaps you'd pony up the money for an Alliance membership. you're just stirring ****...so go stir **** somewhere else.
