A while ago I had a thread about the making of a Duvall wind screen. Now the screen is finished. Not perfect, but with fairly correct propotions and good enough for me.

Wow! That looks amazing! You did a damn fine job on making that. It certainly looks like a professional job to me. :)

Are those tabs meant for a top of some kind?

    No. Cold rolled steel.
Sprayed with Hard Hat aluminium paint temporary. Chrome is not in my budget for the time being.

Well, of course I could collected the photos I have from the making in this thread, but it really ain't that much to explain.

All the pieces were made of cardboard first, then transalated to a steel plate and cut out with a grinder. After that I welded the pieces together.

The centre section was a little difficult tow.
I'll se what I find on my computer.

  11. There is nothing home made about that windshield. I'd call it masterfully crafted in a home workshop. I'll bet your whole car will be top notch from front to back. Congradulations from Georgia.

YES-- it looks great on that cowl!!

How many hours do you estimate to make it?

    staleg,
    nice job!
Do you have a full side profile pic and a full frontal pic (of the roadster) :)
Would love to see it in the big picture.
    Keep it up!

Here on the HAMB the rest of the car would probably be rather "wrong" as I have choosed a Fat Man stage III M II IFS, Jaguar IRS, and a Chevy 350 small block engine (with a 6 speed manual trans tow).

As a first time builder with no mechanical education and no hard core hot rod dad, this are more than enough challenges already and for me building a car is more about the beauty of functionality than about taking care of traditions. That's why it had to be IFS/IRS on my rod.

Don't misunderstand. I'm not bashing other hot rod styles. It's just that this hot rod is about what's right for me. Otherwise it wouldn't be much fun.

And what would be left of my hot rod building if the fun is taken away?

Super Duvall windshield. I love the correct proportions. Mine sticks out in the wind at the top but it is on a 33 Ford which is wider. I like the top tabs for the windshield better than drilling the w/s. Maybe you can make a top next. I am building one and it is difficult to get the shape correct on a Duvall. I am sure with your talents you will get it right the first time.

    Nice work.

Thanks to all of you for the positive comments!

Mine is a 34 Ford, so it should the cowl should be the same with as yours.
The templates I made from a 32's Duval screen, had to be widened quite some. Because of all that widening I choosed to make it app 5/8" higher as well. Figured this wouldn't ruin the propositions.

Low windshields are indeed good looking, but in my friends '32 I have to sit with bent neck when the roof top is on (and I'm not that tall at all!) and to build me a car that I have to sit like that is out of the question.
I know the '33 and 34's are bigger than the '32s in all ways, so maybe it had worked just fine with the same hight windshield, but those extra 5/8" are not wasted as long as they don't look wrong.

Another problem with the look of a roof top together with a very low windshield it that the roof often ends up with some kind of "bubble" much higher than the wind screens upper line, to get room for the drivers head.

Here are a couple of more photos:

The car looks great. I think you will be happy to have the 5/8 inch more height. Here is what mine looks like with the stock height Duvall....Low.

Pewesplace. It looks to me that you have got a very nice stance on that roof top.
