I found this earlier in the day while mowing the lawn. I did a google search, and looked on the internet to try and find out what it could be.
It is made out of aluminum, it has torpedo on both sides in cursive writing, and on the front it says TW. I was thinking maybe it was for a toy, but I am unsure. Any thoughts would be great.

Well, I can't read German, but I found a match.

A little more searching yielded a lot more german, but little useful info. Using my stunningly dull powers of deduction, I'd guess its a fender ornament from a Torpedo-rad moped from Frankfurt Germany from the first half of the twentieth century. Check out this link for more useless words (where's our German brothers at?) but some enlightening pics, including the tw logo.

My guess is an old mascot for a balloon tire bicycle.

  5. My guess is if you put it on eBay you'll make enough to pay for gas for the mower for the rest of the year.

Wow, Thanks I looked online for about three hours and couldn't find anything. I found this in the back yard. I wonder what else is back there?

I think early canister type vac*** cleaners were called torpedos. Always thought it was generic but could have been a brand name, or model.

The logo looks like the one on Tiger Wood's hat. Man I hate copyright pirates.
With all the stuff going to the crusher these days, its probably a cast off of some s****pers load.

Well, I talked to the next door neighbor (his brother was the original owner of this house) and he told me that his brother moved from germany in the early 40's when he was about seventeen. He thinks it was a trinket that he had brought with him, but he is unsure. At least he is sure that his brother wasn't into moped's.

Torpedo is a name for German bicycle parts, produced by "Fichtel und Sachs". "Fichtel und Sachs" produced bicycle hubs and gearshifts and also small motorcycle engines. You can get bicycle parts today, but they produce more car clutches and other automotive stuff today. They belong to the "ZF" company.

Torpedo was a German manufacturer of motorcycles. There is some confusion as Fitchtel & Sachs, another German company invented the automatic rear wheel hub and brake for bicycles and also called it the Torpedo. These hubs were in production from 1904 to about 1991! Although there had been a Torpedo motorcycle made from 1901-07, this ornament is from the later company that produced motorcycles and mo-peds from 1928-1956. I'd say this is from a late 40's -50's version. Not much is known about them these days but I'm sure some collector would love to have it.
