I am mating a '39 Deluxe Coupe body with the front panels/guards of a '38 Deluxe Ford. Where they meet and the guards/bonnet etc overlap is completely different. To make them fit, I need to replace the upper and lower side cowl panels with those from a 37/38 (Std and Deluxe), and 39 (Std) Ford. EMS make the lower cowl panels, does anyone make upper cowl panels? Given its not a part prone to rust, I feel I might be ******* in the wind, but just wanted to check first. Thanks in advance.
Are you calling my car a beater? ha ha ha. Yeah, I was thinking I should contact him. Will do so today. Thanks for your help.
A lot of the '39 Deluxe coupes in New Zealand started off as Standards, so there must be a few 39 Std cowls out there that you can rob the parts from. PS: Let me know if you find one - I need a better firewall for my '38 Std coupe.
Steve, I don't believe anyone makes the panel you're looking for. Finding a cowl to cut up shouldn't be too hard though. JH
Thanks Simon, I didn't know that. I was really hoping to find brand new panels, just to save cutting old ones from another car, but it looks like I won't have a choice. EMS produce the bottom side cowl panels, and I thought I might be able to mate one of these to the top half of the '39 Deluxe side cowl panel, but the guards are actually much lower on a 37/38 (and 39 Std) and where they meet the body/cowl, they sit much lower.
Thanks Jim, yes you are right. Nobody makes the upper cowl panel. I actually part traded my 38 Deluxe four door sedan body on the coupe body, because I didn't have anywhere to keep two bodies. But I'm fast discovering it was the worst move I've made since starting this project.
