I might be purchasing a 50 buick from a friend of a HAMBer in Baton Rouge. I live in central California and I could go out and pick it up, but it would probably run be $1,500 in fuel these days...can anyone point me in a direction of a transport service or someone that might want to make a deal if they need something towed anywhere out that way and want to split fuel costs?? Thanks
Hi According to Mapquest it is about 2050 miles one way from Baton Rouge, LA to San Luis Obispo, CA. That would be a minimum of 4100 miles for you. Regular unleaded @$4.10 a gallon at 10 m.p.g. means fuel cost would be about $1680 minimum. If you use diesel it would be higher. Factor in the time it takes you to travel, cheap hotel rooms and food and you are looking at a hard minimum cost of $2000 without calculating wear and tear on your equipment. Realistic hard cost to go get this is actually about $2000 minimum.
How mobil is the car? If it runs and drives you can have it hauled by a convoy truck. They will put it on with a load of cars headed to Cali. They usually don't want to mess with non runners though.
Thanks for the reply...so @ $1.25 per mile your charge, it would run about $2,500?? I will look into some other options, there is a chance I might make this into a "road trip vacation" and do it myself, but I will let you know. Also, thanks for the leads to other possibilities from transporters... I hope I can make this all work out.
I used http://autocarmover.com/index.htm to ship my merc, from Alabama to California a bit over a year ago. I spent $850?
See the thing is, I will have a car on the trailer coming back to Ca, so I am looking for something to haul out there on the way. I only have an 18' trailer, so only my car will fit. Sorry.... The more I check shipping costs, the less I want to drive all that way myself. Not too bad considering fuel costs.
put a ad in the local paper where the car is to see if their is someone local that is planning a trip your way and would like to have their fuel costs supplemented.
