my buddy got a 71 el camino free less front fenders and quarters. he's wonderin what on earth that is early steel will fit the frame. anybody know?

The '68-'72 El Camino frame, being boxed, is often used to resurrect GM A-body convertibles of the same era. It's necessary to bob the rear a short distance and relocate the rear crossmember, but well worth the effort, given the scarcity of good convertible frames. Those frames probably are too wide to fit, unaltered, under the '30s-'50s era cars.
It is worth good money to a guy with a bunk convertible...probably enough to buy most of that 30's through 50's car he's talking about sitting on it. Taking it to the s****yard would be throwing away money...Especially if it has disc brakes up front and a decent rear end.
Do you have access to a sawzall or cuttin' torch, and a welder ? You can do anything ! Won't look right w/out fenders though!!!!!

I've heard them being used for Shoeboxes. I know the length is correct for a Shoebox but I'd bet the width is too much. Mercs have a longer wheelbase and a wider track width so I'm not sure, but something to look into!

What is the huge deal here? Am I missing something? Its a frame swap, he's not asking to put wide whites and dummy spots on an '85 El Camino.
apparently, none of them have paid any attention to cars such as FlamedAbone's Merc...or any other of the cars that have been built using a clip. Yeah...Jesse James Merc sure looks like **** s****ing along with that amazing Ch***is under it. Grow up. These frames have been used for this exact purpose (swapping) since before Half of You were Liquid.
