Thankyou Dave!! & Kev & to you BigDdy31. Everything seemed fine before heads came off, no top end noise at all. Put them back on, severe noise & some valve springs not goin down too much. Ran for about 5 mins, put some oil down rods to lifters & those valves& rods began to move ok but still oisy. Took switch off oil filter & oil was comin out & increased when revs so pressure seems there albeit little velocity tho ( is that normal? ) Decided on the adjustable rods on recomendation from Lincoln officiando set the clearances up as per the manual but still clatters like a diesel. He has since said to try & tighten them up to touch tops of valves but not too tight but have yet to try that. Any further ideas chaps? no more quips from you either Dave!

  2. Something changed...!

    Did you recheck your clearances...?

If you're running stock hydraulics..., Did you try zero lash plus 1/2 turn...? (Sometimes the lifters get sticky and this might work to free them up)

Otherwise it's seriouse..., and you're having oil pressure problems! [IMG]

Can't remember if the head gaskets have anything to do with oiling but it would be nice to have a Chiltons book for the 430 to answer these questions!!! [IMG]

    Good Luck...!

what type of work did you do to the eng ?

the rocker shafts have a notch at one end ,that notch has to be facing down ,the left bank shaft will be towards the rear of eng and toward the front on the right bank if not,no oiling to the rockers.also the rocker shaft bolt that goes into the stand over the oil hole should be hour gl***ed to allow oil to p*** into the shaft, or the stand itself may have a slot that runs next to the bolt. its been a while since i worked on one but the rocker shaft ***embly is very similar to the FE series.

Thankyou all...... problem ended up being lack of oil pressure due to inner part of distributor shaft being worn & henceforth not driving the oil pump!! Just pure fluke that it went at same time a having heads done. Thankyou all for your help & advice & for stopping me kicking the darn thing!!!
