how can I prove or disprove my '58 J2 is a "heavy duty" (factory race) motor?

the guy I bought it from said he thought it was,
but how can I tell for sure?

  2. We just went over that the other day on a '57 motor, if you do a search - I don't remember all the details, but there was something different about the valve covers, dimples for an adjustment of some sort.

the factory valve covers are gone, they were replaced with Moon no-names

    I'm looking for serial numbers
or internal physical characteristics, parts or castings, unique to the W motors

Didn't the oil pan have what looked like an oil filter welded to the side of it for 1 qt more capacity. I seem to remember this from a 57 J2 I had back in 1968.

Found a 371 J2 with dimpled valve covers.
    W1 J2 maybe?
Only has a 2 bbl on it now.
Adjustable rockers make it a solid lifer engine, right?
what else is there to look for?
