My wife is heavy into bicycling. Today she came home and told me she spotted an old car for sale. We went for a ride and found a really neat and fairly clean 1930 A sedan for sale. I talked to the owner. It is all stock, but runs really well. He just used it in the local 4th of July parade. It looks better in the pics. I think It might have been painted with house paint. Asking price is 8k. Does that seem fair?? I would love to talk my wife into letting me get it. Time will tell. I really don't need another project laying around.
yes considering i paid 7500(gas getting it included) for one a state away with no interior and old ****ty black paint. runs bad too....that one is sweet i woulda flown and drove it home..
Not a bad deal if you are going to rod it. But if you are thinking about restoring it, buy one finished.
thats not a project, that is a good deal and a driver. A guy down the street from me has a bunch of stock A's with reworked banger motors. he drives them all over the country, last year he drove one to Alaska with a bunch of others in a group. He built most of them since that is what he does for a living. And yes he has a bunch of A parts sitting around (but he is a bit pricy).
sounds to me ..like she picked it out..if not, why would she have shown it to you? take her out to dinner tonight..offer the man 7G and work with him until an agreed value is set and than bring it home..sounds like a slam dunk to me.
Man, God bless wives who bicycle!! She must really like it otherwise she would have told you from the get go that she didnt care for it. BUT>>>>>>> If you are going to rod a sedan why pick this one for that much money. Yes its worth it if you plan to keep it stock. You could instead... buy a bare body in good shape for 3 grand and it'll leave 5 grand to buy the needed hot rod parts. Have you considered what you'll have in an engine alone? Great find by the way and again...God bless Bicycles and the Wives who ride them!
FWIW, the best '30 Tudor body I've ever seen (which was near NOS) sold at the Nats South this spring for 6K. That's 6K for just the body with doors, garnish moldings, & good wood. I saw a body that was almost as good bring $5500 two years ago at Shades of the Past. There are 3K bodies out there but they are an endangered species. JH
if u are going to rod it, ask yourself if this is the car for you.. im the only one i guess that thinks this, but thats a mighty nice car to cut up unless your idea of rodding it is a worked over flatty and a lil drop with wheel/tires... that would be AWESOME.. if you wanna chop it, make new frame, etc... its too nice of a starting point IMHO
Offer $6500........IF you really want it, have the cash on you. I think if you wanna build a hotrod out of it and are going to swap everything out, the price is too high, as the running gear ain't worth much once sold off..... But if you wanted to build up the banger engine, and just swap out tires/wheels and lower it a bit, 8K is a good price..... All depends on what your overall plan of attack is I guess.....
Bottom line- it's a Model A Tudor, the belly****on (everybody has one) of the early 20th century! It's a great car to do whatever you want- I'd MUCH rather do mechanical work than body work ANY day (mainly 'cause I STINK at it right now). Now, if that were a limited production, rare variation, etc I would hesitate.
Ive seen them running really nice for 6ooo so it just depends on what people will pay . I wouldnt pay 8000 for a 1930 sedan that your going to take apart and 6 k for a body two much just because somthing sells for 6000 doesnt mean its worth 6000 but that just my 2 cents id offer 6000 to 6500 if he says no more on . If your looking to build a rod buy a rusty soild one and sand blast the thing put in a few patch panels and go . Check out rufus ranch he has a few for a few grand and running 1930 coupes for 8000 .
Like Harrison said ... nice bodies cost $$$. There are quite a few 29 Fords around but most are not all that nice. If the body is good and not rusty ... I think it could be a decent buy. I would much rather do mechanical work than body work. If you want a Hot Rod that is not all cut up ... like the style below ... It would be a great candidate. But if you want a Model A like this ... p*** on the deal. The car is too nice for this style of rod.
No such thing, wrong web site, you need to check out: www.paintbynumber.com for your restoration fix, this is a Rod and Custom site brother.
That car just screams resto-rod! Juice brakes, dropped axle, & a hot lil flattie would be the bomb in that car! A buddy of mine did just that with a roadster & it turned out to be one of his favorite cars that he ever owned.
Do what jordan said, and that car would be perfect. Theres a few guys here who have banger powered A's with dropped axles fenders and 16 steelies/juice brakes. And they look perfect..its all you need. Id buy it, sure you can buy a 1500 dollar body, but your also gonna be working on it!..this looks like a great time saver to cruise with the wife. IF shes happy, everyones happy right?
I agree. You're going to end up only using the body and maybe the frame anyways... Why spend 8000 on something where you can find a NICE sedan body for 2500?
BUY IT ! NOW ! Have you priced what body and paint work will cost you ?? Go, get your wife,......RUN ....forget the Bikes .... Fast .... Buy it now..... and do it just like Chris did in the link that G***erfreak put up. I'm serious !
If the paint is ****ty, I'm not convinced that 8K is a screaming deal. I know a local guy that has a '30 rumbleseat coupe with very nice old black paint and nice interior, all stock and totally driveable, he is asking 10.5K. This one is a sedan and needs to be repainted. Personally, I'd start at 6K And if anyone locally wants to buy the coupe I know about and sell me the running ch***is, let me know.
Would already be in my driveway of it was closer.... Buy it! Someone else will if you don't and then you will be sad.
