i have a chevrolet 3100 1953 pickup i have use a 1978 frontclip from a monte carlo now i want to use from a 1987 caprice the coil springs is that posibole and how can i ***emble the coil springs is there a easy way to do that?...
Coil spring out of a caprice is rated alot higher and is a little taller than the g-body cars (78-86 monte, cutl***, regal, malibu,) you could probably get it in there with a spring compressor but it's not gonna be easy. If I were you I would find a set of g body springs and put them in there. You can get them new cheap and probably free used. also you could use springs out of an early s-10. Check out opg.com (original parts group) they sell them all and you can get them in diffrent spring rates, or lowering springs in 1", 2", & 3". I have never tried to put in a full stack of original springs back in a car but have put alot of cut coils and lowering coils back in the g body cars with no spring compressor just jack the lower control arm up. Another good places to get suspension parts for a g body clip is speedwaymotors.com, they sell alot of metric clip parts for dirt cars bolts right on what you got.
the spring is way too stiff the frt end will be jacked to max extension. the best way to install a spring is too remove the inner mounting bolt from the lower control arm but you need a u shaped fixture on your jack or you can separate the ball joint and lower control arm and use spring compressor (2 long bolts with hooks on each end) be careful the is alot of stored energy when compressed,
