you can still build a rod cheap

this is what i built for under 6100 bucks

i started out with a super rough cab that was given to me-also had an
s 10 frame -305 tpi & 5 speed given to me--if my original fenders werent destroyed by a sansblaster -I would have been into it for a lot less-i originally wasnt gonna paint it but did--i call it my rat rod with a paint job-ive been driving the wheels off it---thats what its all about--long live hot rods-it also averages about 27 mpg which makes it more affordable-all the parts given to me were stuff friends didnt need-what do you think

    hope the pictures come out

That was not what I was expecting to see from your description. That is a BEAUTIFUL truck. Nice job if you pulled that off for less than double your quoted cost.

yes i did build the box---i had a sheet metal shop make the bends-then i welded 1 inch emt tubing along the top for the roll-tailgate was done the same way only i bent a piece of flat stock & rolled the top metal around it to giveit the stock look-then i welded a piece of tubing to the bottom to slip the hinge pins into--also i didnt want to chop it so i added 7 inches to the length of the bed to balance it off--its just a driver not a show truck & i am enjoying the hell outta it

damn nice work man. For only having 6100 in it, that's beautiful. What gears are you running to get 27 mpg?

if you scrounge around you would be amazed what is there for the taking-you can find drive trains by asking about the unregistered car in peoples yards-(Many would be happy to get rid of it free just to get it outta the yard---also the cab i have is a 46-47 which as far as i can see its the same as a 40 except door glass has a frame around it--the parts are there--you just have to find em--also when you are talking to someone mention you are looking for old car parts--you wont believe how many leads you will get-THE BIGGEST MOST IMPORTANT PART OF KEEPING IT CHEAP-THROW THE CATALOGUES AWAY & MAKE IT YOURSELF--USE YOUR IMAGINATION----this is how ive built every rod or custom my whole life & ive built many of them

Nice work. I'll be building a box for my Diamond T, I want it taller, wider and longer than a Chev or Ford, and yours is inspiration! Did you use 16 ga or 18 ga for the sides and end panels?

    Thanks,

    Brian

Looks great! Stop by the shop next time you back in your "home state",and we'll go for a ride. Did the Delco fuel pump work out OK for you?

Nice looking truck. My wife would probably follow it around the fairgrounds or park as she has a thing for red 40's
