Headed for Austin TX in a week. Tourist advice!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by blue collar stu, Jul 9, 2008.

  1. As the ***le states I am headed to Austin next week, I think I'll be arriving on Wednesday morning (the 16th). That night I am going to see a band play at emo's (Lucero- if you like songs about girls and beer, check them out!) and I will be bringing my bmx (lots of bmx stuff to do in Austin) but I also would like a few pointers on what there is to see/do as far as cars go.
A couch to crash on wouldnt hurt either (tight budget)

    Thanks- Stuart

I just got back from Austin. 6th Street has lots of watering holes. Check out Nuno's on 6th for live blues 7 night a week. I didn't get to over to A.S.S.

I saw about zero interesting cars.

Texas BBQ. Damn fine brisket. Ironworks, Stubbs, Salt Lick (out of town)

The godfather of the austin car scene is Steve at the Continental Club on south congress. Music rocks. There is sometimes a pub meet at the Dog & Duck. Seach here for that.
For mexican food, almost anything not a chain is good. Chuy's on north lamar for texmex and pacific star at 79 & I35 or 183 & anderson mill rd. for oysters and beer.

Catch a movie at any of the Alamo draft house cinemas. The name should clue you in. If you get bored on a fri or sat night, find your way to carlos n charlies on lake travis for bikinis and more beer.

South Austin Speed Shop is just one of the cool garages in town.

I'm sure you'd be welcome at Thirsty Thursday in Taylor at Billy's place. Search that one here, also.

visited Austin last year, Austin Speed Shop is a must, they are really cool folks, gave me the "red carpet" treatment!! Ya gotta go to the Continental Club also. Check out the bats at dusk when they come out from under the bridge its cool. I found Austin to be a great town.

  12. Nothing against Stu, against Austin. haha.

JK, Austin is cool, it has it's moments. Usually only once a year around the beginning of April.

some great guys over at Empire BMX off of 5th Street and Walsh. it's a big purple warehouse, you cant miss it. those guys ride hard, i'm sure they could show you some spots.

Continental Club is a must, and you might as well hit Home Slice Pizza up while your at it since your already on Congress. then cruise over to Amy's Ice Cream for desert.

i like Rudy's BBQ a tone. Chuys is great too.

S*** and the Flyrite shops are both cool places to visit. might catch a cool show at Stubbs, Emo's, or The Red Eye Fly on any given night. just watch out for the ghetto clubs, and dont get ran over by a Donk.
