im goin to check out a 31 chevy 5 window coupe tomorrow a.m. looks to be in pretty good shape. its a rumble seat car with crank down rear window. its a complete original car. guy wants $4,500. im not familiar with these cars, any thing in particular i should look for??? is that a good price if its as solid as the guy says it is???
The GM cars of this era used wood as the primary structure, where Ford and other mfg. used wood but not as a major structural element. So watch out for routen wood, because this will mean major structural problems. Just my 2 cents.......... As for price, last year I bought a 31 Model A coupe, running driving car for $5000. I would say that it would be considered a prade quality car, Poor quality 60's era restoration, looked cherry from 25 feet. I sold the car one month later for $10,000. So the sale price is most likely in the ball park, depending on the quality of the car.
any chevy is worth that.. but im a chevy guy so whatever.. and its only worth what you'll pay for it. and if you are interested in it enough to go see it then you would probably buy it and if its in decent shape I'd buy it for that. its always nice to see people do other things than a 32 Duece. I love dueces but i like different also. Good luck and post photos asap.
Don't get too scared though, alotta wood yes, but you can get all of it or just the pieces it may need new. The Filling Station is another source for parts and some patch panels. Depending which direction you want to go the wood can be replaced with a fabbed metal structure too, lot of work to do it right though. Good Luck! I'm picking up a '31 three window myself on Sat.
Wood is available at www.chevywood.com or fabricating a steel structure is a great option. Here are some photos (not mine) to give some ideas. The one b&w is the factory jig at Fisher Body.
crap, I emailed the guy at chevywood, thanks for the link and great pictures, I have a 31 2 door coach that needs help, I was going to do it all steel, but the wood would be nice.
