So, I go to work on the truck for the first time in about 10 days (been assembling the axle seperately) and there are strings of Black Widow web everywhere...like tiny strands of steel. They are strung all accross the wheel wells and extend like 2 feet up the side of the truck and 3 to 4 feet out to the side...kinda like the little suckers are trying to keep it from floating away or something. I grabbed the hose with a high pressure nozzle (we're pumping like 19 gallons a minute here) and NOTHING...the webs did NOT budge. I mean, the water was so hard it hurt to put your hand under it. So I grab a broom and sweep it all off (this was just yesterday) and this morning there's like 30% of it rebuilt!! These little blood suckers are industrious.

So, I have to work on my truck but do NOT want to get bit. How do I get rid of them? Is there an industrial strength bomb? Or maybe repellent that makes them leave? hey, I want them dead, don't need a kid or animal getting bit. What should I do?

  2. there are good bombs available from the hardware store. A guy that worked for me bought a Ford Consul that had them everywhere and three of these did the trick. Stunk a bit, but worked!

ortho can foggers work well, double up on the amount they say to use for the square footage of your shop. you can't take any chances with the widows.....

  4. Aw hell. Here I thought you found a secret stash of 57 Chevy race cars!!!! Good luck with the spiders, though. Don't get bit.

Use a fogger and tarp the car. It will make it more potent.

I wish!!...probably wouldn't have a hard time getting rid of those.

Well, luckily the truck is OUTSIDE on a concrete slab, so they didn't make I inside (not that I know of). The problem is that the fogg dissapates so quickly. I'll have to just buy a few and keep at it. Are ortho foggers the best? And, can I really rely on anything being full proof? That's kind of what i'm hoping for...

This is why you tarp it. Make it like a tent that wil keep the stuff in longer.

Sometimes the simplest ideas escape us all...thanks for the tarp idea...now I should have some success.

I must have been responding the first time when the tarp idea was being posted.

I had to do it on some furniture that my wife bought from England. Full of these beetles that ate the wood and are only native to europe. Made a "tent" and fogged the crap out of it. Good luck.....and if you still cant stop them they come out at night. After dark, take a flashlight and a can of raid (brakekleen works too) and go widow hunting.....

  11. I bought a car that sat outside for a while and brought it to my shop. The NEXT DAY there were webs everywhere! From the car to the hoist, from the hoist to the light fixtures, from the lights to the desk and toolbox. I mean everywhere. Looked like some special effects for a horror movie. Anyway, it wasn't the 1st or last time I've had this. I use those Raid bombs that come 3 in a pack (orange in color on box and cans), and they've worked for me every time. They're about 9-10 bucks per 3-pack. They'll for sure work best indoors if possible. But, a simple car cover will be fine if outdoors, I'm sure. PS-I get mine at the local grocery store (Ralph's)

  12. the last car i drug home from cal. we used a canvas tarp and lit off the bombs under it walked away for a few days then let it air out really good before working inside it again. if you start to get sick you didn't wait long enough! ask me how i know.

I had this when I pulled a 36 Cevy Sburban in outta the desert.

Throw a trap over the whole car and bomb it good. There are probably spider eggs about so you will need to do it again in about 3 weeks.

I see a few problems with the Oxy torch method. 1) I have to actually FIND the Black Widow (and I'm SURE there is more one given the size and number of webs) 2) My truck is completely intact which means I'd have to crawl UNDER it to achieve the goal 3) I just KNOW I'd burn something I either don't want to or can't afford to replace right now. Looks like it worked for you though...LOL :)

Do this during the day so you can see if any are on you, or around... then use a broom to snag all the web and spray whatever you find with whatever you have laying around that is toxic and wo'nt eat your paint. Once you have done this spray or use a bug bomb meant to kill and repel the little pests. I've done this enough to know it works. Keep your wits about you while working and you should be ok.

  21. The little pricks have to eat, and they will be in the webs at night. I just walk around with a flashlight, a can of brake cleaner, and have my spider-stomping boots on.
the spray will cause them to fall out of the web, where they get stomped.
If you dont see one, move the web a little. It will come out.

The little ones are not black. They are white, then their ass starts to get a brown swirl pattern on them as they grow. Then they turn black.

I live in the land of 2 million black widows. they are really nothing to be too afraid of. I've killed lots of them, they haven't killed me yet. But they have tried!

The bug bombs and a tarp work too, just not as fun!

Had one living under the dash of my panel truck. I would tear the web down and every morning it would be back up. Started going out in the morning when it was still dark and finally one morning I was able to see her. Damn, one of the biggest I've seen. Hit her with some ant spray, knocked her down and than smoosed it with the can. Set off three bombs under the panel cause there was a bunch of webs coming from the under the panel to the ground. Killed 5 of them with the bombs. Been clean of them ever since.
