Hello I need a little helpful direction. Back in the early 50s my father built up a flathead engine. Complete with 3x2 intake, aluminum heads and all the speed upgrades of the day. Very cool right? The motor was put into a 1940 ford. The car traded hands several times between himself and his two brothers over the years. My uncle has p***ed and while my cousin will get the body I will get the motor. What I need is a trustworthy shop in or near chesapeake bay virginia that can pull the motor stick in on a pallet. My aunt will handle the rest. This could be done in the yard. If done in the shop both the car and motor will need to be returned to the house where they came from. Other ideas are welcome. Thanks
HF sells a cherry picker for right on about $150. There can't be much to a '40 ford and the flatty's pretty easy too. So, a shop is probably just a waste (plus, you'll have a cherry picker when you're done!)
I'd say, even with gas prices what they are, you could road trip with a borrowed cherry picker and some tools and get that thing back home in a long weekend. Maybe even much cheaper than the Yellow Freight bill. It's about time you visited your Aunt, isn't it?
The road trip might be the way to go but I will be a big job for a man and a boy. Plus I don't have a truck that would make the trip. I am now wondering about having the car shipped both ways.
http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/pts/749785353.html saw this add in the local CL but it's a nation wide company. you can rent a cherry picker from U-haul then you don't have to buy it + it tows like a trailer with wheels. maybe a VA hamb'r or a group of them could pull it out and pallet it for you ...you just send a MO for the crane rental some food,beer/soda ect they set a date to show up and yank that thing out for ya! **wouldn't hurt to throw a few bucks in for the guys too???
