Headers on Impala, Clearance Issues, Type?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Camel City Skull, Jul 11, 2008.

  1. So I gotta 1961 283 V8 with everything stock up there and I would like to throw on the biggest, knarliest headers I can find that will FIT. Will I be stuck with 'block hugger' type? Thanks for any suggestions and thanks even more for links to exact product lines etc. I am wanting to pick up an old, cheap pair for this rod. Ebay kinda deal.

I still see used pairs of '58-'64 Chevy headers at swap meets from time to time. They look like headers intended for use with sidepipes, as they exit almost straight out to the side to clear the X frame.

I had several sets on my 62.I found they all fit the same, and as far as headers go,they went on fairly easy.58-64 were all the same as far as headers go.

Doug's Headers makes a very cool long tube set for your Chevy, part #D358. Killer quality and a bit of history as Doug's has been around since 1958. Not cheap, but then quality NEVER is!

    Yeah,
Why the "BIGGEST KNARLYEST HEADERS" you can find for a stock 283 ?

Headers for this car are really a pain in the ***, And forget about lowering it with the style header i have seen for these.

I had a '60 El Camino that was slammed & there is no way to run ch***is exit headers.

Leave the stock manifolds & run Dual exhaust, You will be much happier.

Maybe the best thing is to remove the Hood & run Tractor Pull Headers on it, Sounds like you dont want somthing that fits... Just something to make Noise & Shock Value.

Tractor Pull Headers ( they are the biggest & knarliest) & Flame throwers should do Nicely !

Anybody out there have a set of decent used headers in NorCal? I need a set for my '58 Biscayne.
