Its as simple as a brake line lock, but who wants the hasle of that. Two pumps of the brake and lock it.

i ran an electric fuel pump on my 70 chevy truck.
i had a toggle switch hidden, and would shut it off when pulling in a parking lot, by the time I would park it, it would "run out of gas".
i never had a problem, but i would never park at a mall either.

Who's to say it didn't leave on a tow truck?? What im trying to say is, if a thief / thieves really want your car...they're going to get it! One way or another! Ive heard the most bizarre stories of how old cars have gotten stolen, its usually much more organized than some thug hot wiring a belly****on Accord or Civic etc. Cl***ic car theft is defiantely organized crime. I know I wouldnt be able to sleep if any of my cars got stolen. I will definately keep an eye out, and wish the best of luck to a unmolested recovery!

Yankee Dave got his car back a few weeks ago (look up the thread), and with some help from the HAMB, maybe this cat can get his 57 back too. By putting the word on the streets it creates more heat for the thieves and their buyers. If these thieves are "organized" then we need to be MORE organized and cover our ***es.

Friend had his 62 olds stolen from WalMart parking lot, walmart gave him
the parking lot videos to help ID the thief, maybe the Mall had some kind
of video security system in the parking lot that would could help ID the thief
or what kind of transport was used.

Friend never did get his car back, local police not much help, and to add
insult to injury, the insurance company would not pay off, they said my friend who
is a retired cop by the way, was in on the theft of his own car to collect
the insurance money, fact is the car was under insured by several thousand
dollars and he would have lost money if that were ture...

The mall has no video surveillance. Sears had a camera but it wasn't set to sweep the parking lot, only the spaces at merchandise pickup.

here's a true stroy of a guy I knew, it's a long story but I will sum it up for ya.
he had a top fuel harley (was ranked #3 or #4 at the time) he was heading back from Vegas to PA and made a planned detour to new orleans (before katrina) to meet with a big executive from a major aftermarket motorcycle parts warehouse about sponsorship. after meeting with the exec and trying to get backing they (him & crew) went to a motel and settled in for the night. sometime during the night one of them got up to hit the head and looked out the window to see the 5 wheel trailer & hauler gone. they call the cops and with in an hour or 2 they found the hauler and trailer abandonned on the side of a side road. the contents of the trailer was empty, truck had been hot wired dash board smashed. the local cops asked what was missing my friend surveyed the damage...1 complete top fuel harley, spare wheel w/slick,complete spare fuel engine, small parts, all the tools, pit bike & a customers race motorcycle that he was to drop off on the way back. the cops said that they didn't give it much hope because the gangs in and around new orleans were bad dudes but they told him to checkin with them down town the next morning.
he called his insurance and the damgae to the hauler was coverd but not the contents of the trailer. after thinking about what the local cops said about the "bad dudes" he called the state police. when they got there he explained the situation and what the cops told him. they could not get involved withg an on going local investigation but advised him that if he had a gun to keep it loaded and on his person , the hint was that the local cops were as crooked as the gangs (which was proved correct the next year when kartina hit and the cps were looting stores too).
they went to meet with the police chief, he said he had a connection and that they should meet with him. they traveled to a near by drag strip were ironically it was 80% bikes running that night. they met with a very seedy looking group of thugs who stated that if he wanted his bike back it would cost him $15,000.00 cash. being from out of state, out numbered & feeling like the law wouldn't help he agreed. and spent the next 2 days having family & friends send cash via western union. they gave the cash to one of the thugs and the next day the police called and tld them they found his bike and were to get it (?????), In the end he had to buy his own race bike back,he never got the spare engine, the customers bike, the pit bike or the tools & tires back. the deal was only for the TF bike, probibly because it would be hard to race it with out drawing attention since there aren't that many of them at local yocal tracks.

Without the US ***le the car is useless ,here in sweden. At least for highway use.
The parts may be attractive anyway. :(

It wouldn't be hard to get a ***le and VIN plate from a junk '57, pop off the original VIN plate and JB weld the new one in place. How close would they check for that when it gets where it's going?

Why not 30 years in a hard labor camp? With no visitors so they can't breed.
    First offense.
Why should we have to worry about these s***bags, we should have the thieves running scared.
I will be keeping an eye out.

Problem is, you have 50 states with 50 different ***le laws (some states have NO ***les on old cars!), and this is just ridiculous! I'm NOT for a Federal ***ling system, as that takes yet more power away from the States. But, at least adopt a standard a**** the 50 States that makes ready recognition of ANY stolen vehicle a hell of a lot easier!

Another problem is that for the most part, most police treat stolen cars and trucks as "tough-****" issues, meaning that "Hey, you got your car stolen? Tough ****, call your insurance company!", while they gravitate back to the donut orbit.

Hope he gets that five-seven back!

Thanks for the bump. So far I've handed out 500 flyers at car shows and every auto theft task force in socal is looking for it. Yesterday, I went to the Mooneyes BBQ and OPG's show in Seal Beach. Today I'm going to Hillco Fasteners show in Garden Grove. I had 2 different people tell me on Wednesday that they would swear they saw it Monday morning headed north on Norwalk blvd. from Wardlow road at about 7:30 am. These people didn't know each other and made the comment as soon as they saw the picture on the flyer. I'm very greatfull for everyone's help and concern. The cops are doing everything they can but, I think it's going to take a tip from a car guy who has seen the '57 in someone's backyard/garage/shop to find it.
