I know it doesn't look like much but this is the start of a huge project. I'm hoping that when winter rolls around the frame and new floor and firewall are done.
The ole stude has 78 nova subframe and hopefully in a few weeks it will be replaced with a tube axel and parelell leaf setup. I'm shooting for the overall feel of a mid 60's gasser, but with modern saftey features, since I am giong to race it!

I've enlisted the help of one of my friends to help get it all done.
Today we worked on the frame rails, we now have both sides roughed in. And I just got done drilling 28 holes in the frame rails!
Thats right I've decided to go ahead and drill and sleave the frame rails. More info in a bit.

This what we got acomplished today. 2x3 rectangular tubing 3/16 thickness with 3/16th fish plates and a crap load of holes!

I've spent the last 3 hours at the damn drill press! But I think It'll all be worth it when done!
CMor is going to sleave the holes with 1 3/4 h.r.e.w. 120 wall tubing.
    Should be plenty strong.
The reason I'm concerned about strength is the frame has to support the wieght of this hunk of iron.

Well I've some clean up to do so let me know what ya think so far.

  6. Now that I see the size of the holes you drilled, I'm bettin' big money the weight of the two discs will weigh the same as the single piece of tubing....maybe even less!!!
Boy am i glad you went tis route.....Rock On

The tubing for the holes in the frame will be seamless tubing... That way It wont have a visible seam...

This is a shot of the frame and firewall and floor pan that are about to come out of this junker!!! At the time all this was pretty fancy for a 16 year old, but now that I've got the proper tools and help things will be allot nicer.[IMG]

Let me run this idea by everyone. on the front of the frame rails I'm going to step down to a 1 1/2 inch hole then down to an 1 1/4 inch hole. On the 1 1/2 inch hole I'm going to use that as the front crossmember. At the last 1 3/4 hole we are going to start the taper to the front crossmember, so the frame has a nice shape about it instead of a danged ole block of steel. Hopefully I've done a decent job of describing this. Basicaly the same idea as shakypuddins 55 front crossmember.
Well I better get after it hopefully I'll have some new pics in a day or two.

We got the holes sleaved this week. Maybe tomorow I'll counter sink all the holes. I've decided to use a 2 inch counter sink on all the sleaves to clean up the welds and it will give it a nice finished edge. I would do all this today but the nostalgia drags in Tulsa are calling my name and I need some insperation!
