Mitler Brothers, 24" throat, electric, what things can be wrong with this tool that I should be looking for? Thanks - Karl
just look at overall condition. make sure that the foot pedal works and that the motor runs both directions. Make sure that the shafts are straight and that the shaft bushings are in good shape. Mittler has service parts and are great people to deal with. I have had my mittler bead roller for 15 years, it works great and I have never had a problem with it.
Any tips as to checking the bushings? I imagine I should be able to see if the shafts are straight when they are turning, but what do I look for in the bushings, excessive play?
Yes, with no load on the rollers, you should have very little play when you grab the rollers and wiggle them. The top roller is the adjustable one, so it's a little harder to tell since there will be some play in the adjusting mechanism, but the bottom is fixed, so that is the easier of the two to determine what kind of wear is on it. They are replaceable, so if they're loose use it as a bargaining tool.
