First off, I am not a hot rodder (just wait a sec), I do have a project that shares all the same tools, techniques, and materials. I have just bought a 1943 GMC CCKW Deuce and a half. I am converting it to look like a 1938 Krupp 6x6 truck. This will mean almost a complete new cab. I am starting with a firewall and a radiator. I need to fill in the rest. On the back used to be a flatbed but I will be making it into a cube van of sorts. I will need to figure out how to build doors, fenders, and a hood. I have a moderately equipped shop. I have a small lathe, mig welder, bead roller, E wheel, brake/roller/shear and a home built CNC router. I also have various woodworking and air powered tools. I do have a planishing hammer and a good old fashioned anvil. Many years ago I built medieval armor entirely by hand using a stump and ball pien hammers. So I know how to roughly shape metal or is that to shape metal roughly? If only I had an air powered planishing hammer back then... I am patient and research my projects well. I am encouraged by all the Houston area rodders. I hope to learn a lot and make my "hot rod on steriods" a stand out vehicle like some of the others I have seen on here. Neil
welcome ..... you and your prodject some interesting. lets see a pic of what a 1938 Krupp 6x6 truck looks like, or concept of what u have in mind.
A very different beast i may say. You sound like you have a very creative ideas so I will definitely keep looking for your post to see what new is going on.
I am a WWII reenactor and I was in the History Channel show, D-Day: The Lost Evidence. Our unit impression is of a Radio Company Headquarters. We reenact the 716th Infantry Division which defended the beaches in Normandy. My website is http://716heer.org I have preliminary pictures up there in the Motorpool section. It shows the current state of the truck and the projected completion look. I will be posting progress pictures there. Neil
What type of headlights should I be looking for to try and match the originals? I have a guy in Germany looking for originals but they will likely be $400 each to get them here. They look like they are about 10" or 12" in diameter. Neil
