So this local guy i know used to own a '40 Hudson custom that was featured in Car Craft in the early 50's (50-52?). He sold it a few years back to another local and now hes selling it to make room at his shop. Havent seen the car yet but i hear its pretty beat. Needs floors and stuff. But from the description he gave me, the doors where welded on, fenders were molded in, hood was decked, doors had a swoop cut into them so i guess you could get in, and a whole bunch of other stuff. So if anyone has any info or pics on this car, PLEASE let me know. Like to see if it would be worth my time dragging home another piece of ****.:p

  4. I owned a '40 Hudson that would fit your description. There was an article in Popular Mechanics in the 50's on how to hack and wack the stock 2 door into a custom sports roadster. Later a "How To" booklet was offered through the magazine for a few bucks. Doors were welded and cut down so as to be able to hop over. The roof was used to make the whole back deck, with the rear window becoming an access to slide the spare tire.
Mine had a late 40's Cadillac dash, very crude boat windshield and a flathead Ford motor.
It had been built by a fellow in Elkridge, MD, and I found it in a small 1 car garage in Back River, MD. I sold it to a fellow whose name was Wes Myrick in WI.
Over the years I have heard of at least 4-5 of these sport roadsters around the country, but never one in Jersey. I can dig out my photos, scan and e-mail them to you.

Saw one of these jobs motorin' around New Paltz , New York a few years back. Couple of gals driving it.
It's amazing how these cars pop up from time to time and place to place. All built from Hudsons too. Must have been a lot of gearheads read that PS article.

I have a 1952 Motor Trend "Restyle Your Car" magazine that shows the conversion of what may have been the original, for Charles Martz of Aurora, Mo. It is quite a bit nicer looking than the one pictured, also with sectioned hood, repositioned fenders, and a less severe cut on the doors. It was originally painted yellow. Distinguishing features would be arch cut windshield tops and a simple grille formed of aluminum tubing (two bars per side).
    Sorry; No scanner.

    Rich...

Long time since I have seen your name. In the 70s I bought some of your fibergl*** rocker panels for my 54 Hudson Broughan. See your address is now GA. Still got the Es*** rod?
