Art & Inspiration Sunday Model Car Thread

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Brootal, Jul 12, 2008.

  1. Well, it's Sunday in Australia, anyway. :)

Today is Super Model Car Sunday here in Perth, Western Australia. It's an NNL type event that is put on by a friend of mine. I haven't touched a model since I built a couple of cars for last year's SMCS, so a week ago I had a look in my pile of kits for something that I could throw together pretty quickly.

With two young kids to chase after, I don't seem to find the time I used to for building model cars, so no crazy customs, roof chops or fiddly paint jobs. The kit I chose was the Stone, Woods & Cook Willys Gasser, the one that has the black version on the box art.

I thought the black looked really cool with the gold lettering, so that was the combo I decided to build. Considering I painted it late Friday night, then put the decals on even later on Friday night and cleared it Saturday morning, I reckon it turned out OK.

Not a huge amount of detail in the engine in regards to wiring and plumbing etc, but I did try to get the metal finishes a bit more 'natural' than CHROME EVERYTHING. LOL

Here's a few pics. I'll have some more of the event in the next few days. Better get some sleep now...

    Nice job.

I've done a series of those kits:

  3. Awesome!

The only thing I don't like about the kit is the front wheels. Should be small window Halibrands, but instead you get some kind of 70s slot mag. :(

ryan, i went to go look at a 48 f1 in acushnet that looks exactly like that 50 except the metal is rotted through in front of the hood above the ford emblems, metal is paper thin in some spots, the guy wants 500 for it with title though, could be built as a flipnose.

Nice Willys. I am gonna have to build one soon. :)

Here is a 32 roadster I did a quick build on. Built it traditional style. LOL Took about a week and did it quik and easy like back in the day when the kit first came out.

i cut the doors open, did work on the bumpers, put the exhaust through the rear bumper, and the green was mixed to look like the 3m masking tape green. the paint is metallic, but i used the same colors for the interior without metallic. don't have pictures of the interior..but it is eye-seeringly bright.

traditional, Jaguar meets Pinnfarrinna (SP?) carI designed many moons ago and built using an illustration board buck covered in bristol board. Enjoy...

  13. Sorry if I overtook the thread. I know this isn't HAMB material but I thought some model enthusiasts and hobbyists would enjoy them. I designed this in about 1983 and built the model in around 1989 or '90. Those are Dodge Copperhead wheels.

I like the chevy! As for the late model custom, I like that too. I have seen the printable paper models where you just fold and glue, but yours takes it to a new level! It reminds me of the my younger hotwheels years. I liked their fiero's simple and cool look, and thats what your concept is to me!

  15. I have one of those. A friend and I chopped it lengthed the front and rear fenders and made a taildragger out of it. Still not finished yet, it's been over 4 years.

nice work guys, almost makes me want to come out of model car retirement, but then again, how would my real rods get done. I also admire the smooth glass black paint job, that was not easily done either. I know by my trial and errors.

  19. Thanks jmccall.
I'll have to build a '32 using the same technique some day.
Does anyone think this is Art Show worthy???

  22. I know it's an OT car, but I just picked up Revell's '69 Nova (I have a '70 in the garage) and it is awesome- one of the best the RM has done in a LONG time!
