Can you guys give me some feedback on these?? I know a local guy getting up in years that has parts strewn all over his property. He has an old school bus that is filled with rubber floor mats that are brand new in the box. There has to be over 200 of them in there and maybe as many as 300. They are all from the 50’s and 60’s. These are the full car mats that would be installed instead of carpet. The mats all are molded with the model and years of the cars they fit like "CHEVROLET 1962-64" so you can tell what they are supposed to fit. Some of them are just market "Generic" and are supposed to fit just about anything.
Basically what I’m wanting to know is if there is any interest in these to make it worth pulling them all out. Would you run a black mat in your car or rat rod instead of carpet? If you did, what would you pay for a perfect new mat made to fit your car? I know that several old cars came with just mats like an old Rambler and a Biscayne I used to have. What do you think a nice mat like these might bring on e-bay? He said he will make me a screaming deal if I buy ALL of them. If I don’t, chances are when he p***es away the buss and it’s contents will be s****ped. What do you think?? Should I mess with it? Here is what they look like.

What would be a high-low price range that you might pay if you were interested? I've got to figure out whether or not I will be able to unload these for at least what I'd have to pay for all of them! What would you pay feeling like it was a good deal and what would be the most you would pay? I'm not trying to sell any to anyone here, just trying to make sure I don't loose my kids entire $47 college fund.

It all depends if they are still "soft" and pliable. I have seen NOS mats from the 50's and 60's that were so brittle that they would crack immediately and fall apart within days or weeks of use.

That said, if there's anything there for a Studebaker sedan, I'm in!

They are all baby soft and in real nice shape with no brittleness at all.

Please help me with value figures please!

I just got a truck restoration catalogue, they list F1 and F100 replacement mats for $125 and sell for $100. If you're thinking of ebaying them, devide the amount you paid for the lot by the number of sets and that'll set your base price.

james I do alot of ebay and craigslist, and if you can buy them for next to nothing go for it, figure it out buy 200 sell for $10.00= $2000 etc, you can make you money over time. I hate seeing NOS car parts go to the dump, I have some NOS gaskets and motor mounts that I got for free from a garage that was closing. If you do buy I would be interested in a few

Since they're aftermarket and not NOS OEM, the retoration nuts won't be lining up with fistsfulls of Franklins for them. BUT, I imagine you should be able to get at least $50-75 each for them on ebay on average . . .

If there's one for a 1949 Plymouth Business Coupe I'm in. Maybe a 1951 Chevy Fleetline, too.

  13. I'd buy one if they you have 41-48 Ford sedan, I'd probably pay no more than $60 because shipping is going to be a *****.

I think $5 apiece is a decent buy in. You will probably have non-movers and need to be compensated for both your time investment and financial risk and storage space.

If you buy 200, figure the first 50 will go at a reasonable clip. Next 50 will drag a little, and the last hundred might be hard to move without extra effort and cost like swap meet space/travel. You might even dump the last 50 for a couple bucks apiece yourself.

    just some random thoughts
    good luck

I had an NOS one for a '55-'57 Chevy wagon, and laid it on my shelf, still folded. I looked at it the other day, and all the folds are now broke clean through--and it was soft and pliable when I got it a couple years ago.

I'd happily pay $100 for one that fits '60-'66 Chevy Suburban.

My 54 Chevy had front rubber mat with rear carpet (it was still all original). I loved that set up. Snag me a set for a 56 Pontiac and I'd be interested.

One can buy molded carpet sets for around the $125 figure. For rubber mats I would imagine you would be well below that. Most people are going to still want carpet.

They are obviously not doing the guy any good. I'd offer him a low offer and see what happens. $750 for the lot or something.

trouble is, those folds wont lay flat properly again.you are welcome to prove me wrong in photos, . but i dont believe you can.
if they were on ebay i wouldnt touch em even if you had one specific to my car.
they are too much of a tactile thing, people wont believe they arent brittle, and rubber mats scream poverty model. okay for trucks i guess.
just some thoughts, im in a negative mood if you couldn't tell.

    EGG-ZACTLY!!:D

There are a few of us that prefer the light poverty model el-chepros with big engines over the chromed up deluxe hard tops. I'd be interested in a 55-56 Ford pair of front and rear. It's got nice black carpet now but I'd love to have the black rubber mats. I've eliminated the radio, heater and deluxe horn ring. Now all I need to **** can is that plush carpet.:D In my circles a true business coupe with a shelf instead of a back seat is pretty high on the food chain.

If they are at all usable and reasonably priced I think you can sell them easier than you might think.

You better check the inventory real close.

    Old bus...300 boxes...big property = no income condo's.

  23. I'd be interested if the right type ( style ) was available.

When I was a kid rubber floor mats were as common on an old rod as angel hair in a custom.

We used to buy ribbed rubber from JC Whittney by the roll. But once in awhile we found the molded stuff at a swap and used that also.

We intend to run rubber mat in Wlibur's Stude when its that time.

The old man told me that they will lay flat 95% of the time after laying in the sun for about an hour. He then told me that for the other 5% of the wrinkles, just wipe them down with brake fluid and let them sit in the sun for another hour and that will get them right out. No joke, that's what he told me! LOL

You guys almost have me convinced to do this. But I put my 61-64 mat in the picture on e-bay for a test run to see if there is a market or not.

I'd definitely be interested in a set for my '64 Mercury Comet. I have a friend that might want a set for his '51 Dodge. I hate having carpet in my cars. In my current project I pulled out the heater, radio, interior, etc. etc. so rubber mats would look right at home.:D

It's true... or use a heat gun, like convertible top guys to to smooth out those kind of wrinkles...

I would be interested in a front and rear mat for a 1956 Pontiac 2dr sedan.

If you find one for a 1962 Ford Fairlane (62-65 Fairlane should work?), consider me in!

    Thanks,

I'll take the first one for my 62 Biscayne 409. I have looked since I started the restoration for a replacement for the origianl one. Great find!
