Hi, Have any of you guys used those Hushpower mufflers by Flowmaster? I just wondered what thoughts you may have on them? Thanks, Greg
I have them on my 1935 For Pickup (the one in my avatar). I have a 302 Ford engine in it. They are more rumbly than gl*** packs, but not as loud as the typical flowmaster you hear on Muscle Cars. A very happy medium indeed! My exhaust is 2 1/2 inch pipe and exits downward right in front of the rear axle. I will probably bring them all the way past the rear axle some day as I dont have a rear window, or side windows and its kinda loud for my tastes, but not so bad that I cant talk on the phone with the exhaust and wind noise. They also dont take up much space at all, and are great for tight confines. Id recommend them to anyone. I like them and am extreemly happy with them. You can call me if you want to hear them, just PM me and Ill give ya my cell number, and a good time to call.
I have them on my Anglia and I am happy with them. My description would echo Dirk35's. I initially used them because of a space issue, but I was pleasanty surprised at the exhaust tone they offer. Here's a pic before the car was finished and tail pipes were added.
I love 'em too. I have them on my 55 Cad, my avatar toy. They have a great tone for Kustoms. Sanderson shorty headers 2 1/4 pipe on a 455 Olds.
I put them on my '36 behind a blown flattie. I was surprised at how loud and rappy they were; not a pleasant tone to my ears. I subsequently added a crossover pipe, hoping that it would take down the rap, and it did. With the crossover, I liked the sound and would recommend them. Without it, no.
We've used them on a number of hot rods, a '55 Chevy and even a couple of Jeeps. They are more expensive than alot of mufflers out there, but they fit well and have a nice rappy gl***pack-y sound. The sound is similar to a 4" Magnaflow, but more muffled. Hank
Its going to be interesting to see what they sound like on a Model A motor with a Winfield head, twin 97's and an MSD 6al
Mine sounds more Rappy than that clip, but not as rappy as a gl***pack. Deffinitly inbetween a muscle car rumbly flowmaster, and the 70s Rappy sound of a gl***pack. FWIW, from my experience, the longer you put your pipe behind the muffler, the more rappy it will sound. The further back you put the Hushpower muffler will less pipe behind it, the more rumbly it will sound. Add a crossover pipe, and it changes the note a lot from what I understand, but I dont have a crossover pipe. I have a good 2 1/2 feet of pipe behind my mufflers.
yep, I agree...had my Hushpower set up as a side pipe on the drivers side and the tone was great but too loud for me. Piped it to the back and it was quieter but too raspy. Added a Hushpower resonator at the back and it is OK now, fairly quiet but deep...
Sound clips of the 18-inch stainless version: http://www.hushpower.com/product/30/HP-2+Series+Muffler+-+304S.html I'd like to hear them with the resonators added. Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
I think I might pony-up and put one on The Belly Flop '65 Coupe Deville. Stock 429. Just has the stock resonator and a turndown right now. Too loud for a Cadillac IMO.
thanks for the sound link. i like the style and the sound isn't too bad. might be good with some bellflowers maybe
i've got them on my 55 chevy. with the 383 blower motor they rapped under load. with out the blower they are a little more mellow. they do have an awesome old sound to them.
