Went to VAPHEAD today asking about C/E 4" axle. No C/E axles for 8 months. I guess I have been asleep at the wheel! Whats up in the future for them? Were they were the only forged new ones?

I asked CE about them 3 months ago and the guy said he sent a big lot of them to honest charleys, you might try them and see if they still have some

I hope they become available soon.
Haven't bothered them lately for a ETA.
But haven't had any for the last 8? months..

(There is another axle project in the super secret work shop though...)

Why not just get a REAL Ford dropped axle from one of the many HAMB'ers that are dropping Early Ford axles ?

Last time I got one the one the kingpin boss was egged out. Never thought to check it and had a death wobble that drove me REAL crazy.

After that I'm done trying to be "cool"! I'll take a new one.

Really? So why not just get one with good kingpin bores?

    steering arms yes.

I sell hot rod parts for a living.
    And I love old Fords.
But sometimes it's nice to order something new,and know what will work with it.

I have one car with a original Mor-drop axle,
one with a SuperBell I-beam, and another with a 5" drop Magnum.
Each axle works perfectly for the car and what I wanted.

If you're just starting out and don't have a stash of early Ford V-8 stuff,
and don't have core, going the oe dropped axle can be way more expensive
and time consuming. And the chances of getting something unusable (wrong)
    is way higher.

Any good axle guy should have checked the king pin bores.
You pay the money you figure you could use it right?

The aftermarket axle business is older then you think.
Bell Auto Parts started selling them when?
I've seen old Bell and Okie Adams axles sell for huge money
because they are old hot rod parts.

    I'm done typing.But sheesh !

www.socalspeedshop.com is selling them---at least I got one a few months ago. In a few weeks I will have a CE drilled axle for sale. I got a deal on a plated one.

A lose king pin hole is very easily repaired. No need to even remove the axle.

Yeh I fixed the axle with heat. Screwed the paint up but wasn't too bad. The thing is I made the mistake of trusting that the dropped axle was good. The car had a bad death wobble and took a while to figure out it was the axle. Lots of headaches!

    I've sold a bunch of 35-40 axles for $10 a piece.

    I learned my lesson.

I would hope they're coming from the drop forge plant and not the foundry.

I was aware that the CE axles forging dies were getting really worn out. One of the last new one we drilled the web was over 1/2" thick, so I don't think they were getting the correct compression on the material.

From the grapvine info line, these were the same dies that Vintage Auto Works (?) had deveolped many years ago and sold them to CE. If so those dies were way past thier usefull lifespan. Hence the shutdown and length of time to build new dies and get back into production.

Lets hope they don't shop this offshore.
