Hi hows it going guys I need some help I ran into a problem.I was setting up the motor putting it together and I knowised that the flywheel bolt pattern in the 86 block is diffrent from the flywheel I got.The flywheel and clutch set up are out of a 64 impala ss siginaw 4 speed. And that flywheel aint going to work.My question is do you guys know of what I can use that is going to work...I really need you guys is help please.....Thank you... 2. the `86 engine was the first year for the one piece rear oil seal.yes, the bolt pattern is different for a reason...that is because a counter balance got left off the rear of the crankshaft. `86 and up engines need a flywheel that has a counter balanced added. if somehow you tried using the early flywheel the engine would be severely out of balance, but as you have found out, the early flywheel WILL NOT bolt up!

you need to use an `86 and up flyheel, either 12-3/4"(153 tooth) or 14 " (168 tooth) depending on your starter and clutch. you can get them from GM perfornace parts, or aftermarket.

  4. your clutch should be fine...make sure you install a pilot bearing in the end of the crankshaft to support the input shaft of the ******

The same flywheels are used on the 4.3 V6 engines. That info should help expand your candidates for stock parts donors.

Thanks Model A.....Hey 36-3Window should I get that pilot bearing for any clue. The trans is out of a 64 Impala 4spd siginaw 10 spline 10 1/2 in disk pressure plate.....

  8. i mentioned installing a pilot bushing because i ***ume the motor came from a car with an automatic, since you had no flywheel for the clutch..

Chevy used a bronze bushing when your ****** was new...newer chevy cars use an needle type roller bearing , both measure the same size , so i don't think it matters which you use.....Napa part number 615-1014 is for the bronze bushing

FYI: A 4.3 is a 350 missing the last two cylinders i.e. Some bore and stroke.

Good advice Al. I just went through the same deal with my 60 El Camino - The clutch and pressure plate bolted up to the new flywheel without a hitch.

  12. Are you going to use the stock radiator, or is there an easy subs***ute that cools a hell of a lot better? Just wondering because I am collecting the parts for a swap to a 327 from a Vette.

Im going to use the same radiator im going to use the plastic 17 Inch fan that P.A.W sells for like 15 or 20 Bucks those work real good and an electric fan at the front of the radiator to make shure it stays cool...
