In just a couple days I found hard to find parts on the hamb faster, and cheaper, than on ebay. How has your experience been?
I have a buddy with a vintage speed parts collection that you would not believe. it was just about all found on ebay. without ebay there would be no way in hell he would have ever found 1/8th of what he has. I have parted out a 60 El Camino, a 53 chevy and a 51 chevy on ebay. my total sales for these 3 was over $11,000.00. the HAMB classifieds is a great thing, but it in no way can compare to ebay.
i was / am just on Ebay....lots of good deals there, lots of good deals here as well........i think hambers are super trustworthy....... not like the ebayer who took a awesome pic of a 4 groove crank pulley that i needed to replace my rusted one on my 440........keep in mind that all of the dents and gouges from what looked like a huge pipe wrench were well hidden in the pic. i shot him bad feedback, he flipped saying he didn;t want to steal my money .that being said, he did not disclose the pulley was damaged or even bent. why would i buy a bad pulley to replace a bad pulley? so i'm out 20 bucks, he offloaded junk, and 20 bucks could buy a steering box seal kit, carb kit, etc... i'd prefer the hambers.they stand behind the stuff the sell, do unto others n' stuff...... My 2 cents, Derek
You're right dragrcr50. they are everywhere. I had a run in on the moparts board recently that just barely turned out in my favor........ We're just trying to scrape by and save a buck, sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you ! I have to be extra cautious on my spending, "we're" 8 months into pregnancy #2 and my wife is planning to be off a whole YEAR ! She'll have more time to check the account online ! EEEP ! HA ! Derek
eBay has changed. Many sellers are fleeing. The ten years I have been with them have been mostly good, but those days are gone. The new eBay CEO has been quoted in some news reports as saying that eBay was looking too much like a flea market. What in the world does he think eBay was? eBay is pissing in their food and bragging about the great new taste. The new eBay management has instituted many new "Animal House" rules and procedures that has sellers leaving. There have been a few "sellers strikes" recently. eBay laughs and says it has no effect, but I hear news reports of more revolts and lower stock earnings or prices, or something like that. Buyers are encouraged to rate sellers anonymously. Throw rocks from behind the bushes so to speak. eBay tells the buyers that leaving a "4" star rating is "GOOD". Then eBay uses anything under a 4.5 as a BAD MARK against the seller. Sellers are afraid to turn in deadbeat bidders and now take some big hits in final value fees because if they ask eBay for their $40-60 back, the bidder gets to trash the sellers feedback and get 100% positive for his own rating. Did your buyer skip and leave you with fees to pay? eBay gets the money anyway because of seller being afraid of being put out of business by anonymous bullies. Shoplifters, credit card scammers, and juveniles trying to bully for better deals "off ebay" get to intimidate sellers with the new one-sided pretend-feedback system. They are always GUARANTEED 100% Positive feedback, and the sellers are now sitting ducks. eBay is going back into past feedback and using "New Math" to recalculate feedback counting Neutrals the same as Negatives in an attempt to trash more sellers ratings. I see several good sellers that I have regularly bought supplies from now have their good ratings falling fast, some of my suppliers have left already, and others, I am sure, will be bumped off the Powerseller list, downgraded in the SEARCH results to being nearly invisible on the bottom. I think it is only a matter of time before many more are forced to leave partly because of eBay themselves trashing their ratings and partly because of eBay inviting others to help trash sellers ratings with their new one-sided pretend-feedback system. After just about TEN YEARS of being a Powerseller, I closed my eBay store a few months ago, and ended all my auctions in order to preserve my ratings until sometime in the future that eBay possibly returns to sanity. Maybe eBay never will get better again. I am sure that many many sellers who depend completely on eBay, feel that they have no choice but to stay as long as they can, as they are being brought down by the very people (eBay) who they are paying much of their money to support. Many more will be forced out pretty soon because of rapidly falling ratings. Some like me who quit right away, will be able to come back with decent ratings if sanity ever returns. I sure don't expect that to happen any time soon. A few buyers are rejoicing, but they are usually the ones who haven't much experience yet, or want to shoplift and vandalize without anyone being able to "tell on them". Shoplifting and vandalism are what eBay is encouraging today. They are pissing in their own food supply and bragging about the great new taste. Some sellers will not be affected very much, many many sellers have already fled, and some poor souls with nowhere else to go are watching their ratings sink and will be forced out anyway. Some sellers with FREE SHIPPING are losing their Powerseller status and going to the bottom of the search results because they were getting hit in their "star ratings" for high shipping costs! Now is not a good time to be a seller on eBay. I have already noticed that my familiar searches are returning fewer items for sale than they used to. Some of my favorite suppliers are gone, and some are crashing slowly. I expect more to be gone soon. Yep, the new eBay management wants it to become the new Animal House. You will love the new taste.
Some sellers with FREE SHIPPING are losing their Powerseller status and going to the bottom of the search results because they were getting hit in their "star ratings" for high shipping costs! there is no best match in ebay motors. motors sellers do not get screwed in search results by bad feedback or stars
I put my Model A on ebay last week. You may have seen it listed. Buy it now 25,900. It went to 21,600 and sat there. To me that was a insult and I pulled it. You don't see many traditional hot rods for sale period. I'm still getting calls. Collecters mostly. I think I will keep it. I would buy a traditional rod today. But where? Out of all these hot cars being build today why so few for sale? Every now and then one pops up on ebay and sha BAB! Big bucks! Model a roadster goes for 54k! Model A coupe 32K. and then a T raodster w/ flathead 11k. I don't get it.
at ebay- Type in "CADDILAC TAILLIGHT" You will see "BEST MATCH" at the top of your search results. eBay motors for sure. Click on anyones feedback rating. You will see stars if they have sold ten items or more. It has been that way for quite some time. One-sided feedback is now the law of the land. Google a few searches such as "ebay sellers revolt" "ebay strike" "ebay changes" and see what news articles you find. Interesting reading.
i used to before i discovered the wonderful world of hamb. so far the only part i havent been able to find here is a licence plate light bezel for my 53 sedan delivery. havent found it anywhere though yet..... got one anyone??? hehe
I have been buying and selling on Ebay for a few years, but the listing fees, Paypal fees and Paypal screwing me in US to CAD exchange since they won't transfer USD between my USD Paypal account and my USD chequing account in Canada, is eating all of my profit. I now use it more like a marketing too and try to sell as much off-line and give guys a break on the price. What they haven't figured out yet is the more you screw the sellers, the fewer of us there will be and the more transactions will go "off-line" On the positive side, I've managed to get some really rare stuff that I would not have gotten otherwise. There are few deals on Ebay these days and I would look for over-the-counter items locally. I only use it to buy odd-ball stuff. My 0.02.
eBay is becoming more and more "Big Brother" A bit at a time, they are working their way along so ALL buyer/seller correspondence will have to go thru their system. You soon won't be able to negotiate without ebay having a record of it and listening in for "fee-avoidance" or other things they do not approve of. They have search programs running all the time looking for keywords that might show them where "policy breakers" are. I saw that on a news show where they were interviewing an eBay top executive. He was bragging that everything you have ever searched for, or asked about or bought or sold is on their records permanently. Even letters are kept way beyond the "90 days" they tell you its available. He bragged that it is always there... Right now, the buyer has to go thru ebay to reach you, and you can reply with regular e-mail. eBay is squeezing that out too. They have talked about your replies and all back-and-forth contact eventually going thru their monitors. All for your protection of course. No more private communication - coming soon. "Everything you think do and say will be in the film you took today" .. from the song- in the year 2525 all for your protection of course
i built my car with the cash i made from e-bay.stuff i had no real way of selling is now paying for my toys......aint the best but it works ...
They are "feeing" us out of what small profit you get & now they put a $50 fee for a reserve price auction !!, the good times are over on ebay as a seller sad but true !
As Lily Tomlin the phone operator used to say a lot- "We don't care. We dont have to. We're the big phone company"(ebay) I am hoping that some auction places like wagglepop, which operates like the old good eBay used to, or others will pick up traffic and give sellers a safe place to sell. Wagglepop just doesn't have the traffic yet. I think the buyers and sellers that liked the old ebay will be enough in numbers to make a new startup a success if they can only get enough publicity to let people know where to go...
Found cheap parts both here and on FEEbay. Been ripped off both here and on Feebay. I would rather sell a part to a HAMBer or buy from one, then to put money into Feebays pocket. Funny though, that people bitch about feeding Feebay $$$ but prefer to use Paypal, which is owned by Feebay.
PayPal has its own dangers, both for sellers and for buyers, but it's so damn handy. In the early days I used to get 8-10 money orders in the mail to each BILLPOINT payment. That was ebays version of the competing PayPal. Then an occaisional PayPal payment. Not long after, it became 6 money orders to two PayPals and three Billpoint payments. Then it became 4 money orders, 4-5 PayPals, and 3-4 Billpoints Then 3 money orders 6 PayPals and 2-3 Billpoints you get the pattern. eBay in its usual fashion had to keep meddling with their Billpoint until it got more and more unwieldy. Eventually ebay fixed and fixed and fixed Billpoint as it got worse and worse and worse until they eventually fixed it into a disaster and had to pull it offline completely and scrap it. They took over PayPal by buying it. Then it eventually became 8 to 10 PayPal payments for each money order I received. Then 18-20 PayPal payments for each money order I received. Whether I liked it or didn't like it, it didn't matter. It was either take PayPal (I found it handy anyway) or do only 1/10th of the business that was available. Just about everyone insists on using it.
No doubt ebay will fade.. as a seller of almost 10 years I can honestly say I'm just about done with it. I made many good friends on there but most have gone to other sites now.. Ebay fees and how they treat the seller with not being able to leave negative feedback on buyers who "backstab",, Like the other bloggers said there new CEO will run them out of the market.. Seems like they are more concerned with selling items like overstock does now. They days of finding nice old parts and accessories is gone.. They want you to sell everything with no reserve.. Its a joke.. Thank goodness for the HAMB..
Fees fees fees! Their fees are a joke.. I miss the old ebay.. It does stink to be a seller on ebay now..
I just got one of your 4 spoke wheels in the mail today.. Great wheel! Can't wai to get in on our Hot Rod.. Will email you a pic of our 32 roadster to post on your site.. My dad has had this car since highschool..
