Looking for a single groove crank pulley that will fit my '69 Ford 302. I have a triple groove that will not fit my application and would trade if wanted. PM me if anyone has a source or one available.
A three hole single groove lower pulley should be able to be found at any Mustang parts vendor. Try CJ's Pony Parts.
I'm going to need one too, its proven pretty hard to find for me, I think CJ's is one of the vendors I asked about it at Carlisle, and no one had the single grove for an older 302.
Early (3 bolt) single groove shouldnt be that hard. Any car without P/S or A/C should be only single groove.
Just saw one on ebay, put 289 pulley in search, an ebay store named Cowboys has them new black is $26 chrome is $29
... Me too!! But I need a 4-bolt single groove crank pulley. The 3-groove pulley I'm running right now is huge and ugly! Malcolm
Yeah JeffB2, I bought one from Cowboys and had to send it back, wrong centerhole size. I'll check CJ's and thanks rebarsford, I appreciate if you could check on that for me. Looking forward to hearing from you.
I use the common three bolt lower pulley and drill three extra holes, as one of the bolt holes will line up. The bolt circle is the same, so you can do this. Finding a single groove 4 bolt lower pulley is going to be hard.
Beware of problems with water pump pulley and ballancer pulley alinment as alt and water pump allinment becomes a problem. I just went tru this on the g***er. had to find a deeper water pump pulley. Buy a matched set if you can. Cal
I went ****in crazy trying to find a replacement waterpump pulley! It had one of those "Custom Chrome" sets on it and I couldn't find anybody who carried them. I tried to just find a crank pulley that would match the WP pulley I found but none of them lined up! I was considering using the billet sets, cause the machine them to be a matched set. I finallt went to Santa Ana Speed shop and a guy was returning the one I needed...YEEHAW!!! Now I just hope the one on there lasts! There's a ALL FORD salvage by my house and I went through 5 55 gal. drums of pulleys and none of them worked! Good luck! If you don't plan on anybody seeing your motor or if you just don't care what everybody thinks,i'd get one of those billet sets I was gonna scuff them up and paint them black anyways...
I'm not understanding why though. Keep in mind you can go into the 221, 260, and 289 as well. The earlier years proved P/S and A/C to be less common. They are all 3 bolt and will fit your 302.
I was told when I was looking for a single or double groove pulley for my SBC to look at the spot welds that hold the pulleys together. I don't know if the Fords are the same, but if you look between the bolt holes on the SBC pulleys you can see the spot welds. Cut/drill those welds out and you've got a single groove pulley. Might be able to make a single groove out of a 3 groove.
Pulleys are some of the first things taken off a car at a salvage yard, and factoring in the scarcity of 60's and 70's cars in salvage yards, it's getting damn near impossible to get a good matching set. I went through "Pulley Hell" a couple of months ago. Needless to say I have a whole bunch of crank and water pump pulleys laying around the shop now. A couple of harmonic balancers too.
I've done what you describe, and when done, the new single groove lower pulley won't line up with anything including the altenator. The best bet is a new chrome aftermarket pulley from a Mustang parts vendor.
Tried a search on CJ Pony Parts' website... Is this what ya'll are looking for? http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb...~S2F31CAKVN75133804123a~Z5Z5Z5~Z5Z5Z50000016e I hope that's of some ***istance, Gayl
It seems that Fords with non p/s are hard to find and you will need to look in the 68 to 79 trucks to find the pulleys you need since p/s was optional in trucks, the 68 to 74 vans might be a good source too but finding them on cars will be harder since p/s was starting to be standard equipment in the early 70s. I have a set from a 70 torino that are not for sale but it was the only one I ever seen without p/s so look in the trucks and vans and you should be able to find them and I can get the part numbers off the ones I have if you will need them. Jeff
Thanks Falcon Rod, but that is not the one for the '69. The 3 bolt crank pulley does not have that lip in the center hole. Man I think I am going to have to run the 3 goove and use an electric fan on the front side of the radiator. BTW, the 302 is in my '54 Ford Mainline.
That lip has to be turned down on a lathe for it to fit your '69 engine. The one pictured is for '68 and earlier. I have turned the lips down on all the early pulleys I have installed on later engines. It is a simple operation.
I have a 4 bolt single groove pulley that is powdercoated gloss black. I'd be willing to sell it. pm if anyone wants it.
jasone Read your pm I sent,I have your solution in pictures I can send via email. So pm me.The pics are a 302 in a '54 Customline w/302
Another possible solution, when it comes to spacing of the crank pulley, is these Speedway spacers: (towards bottom of page) http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/1802,140_SandB-Ford-Harmonic-Balancer.html
This is why I love asking questions on this forum, everyone always comes thru with timely and well researched advice. Thanks a bunch to you all. I am definitely on the right track here.
Understood, not so much around here, but I see your point. And yes, I do too. Saved my *** a few months ago when I ruined my W/P pulley.
