Can you guys suggest a source to get the best deal on auto darkening helmets for mig welding? Thanks!
I have 5 years on a HF auto darkening. I use it more than my high dollar Jackson. Best $50.00 I ever spent.
I've used the HF helmets, even keep one around for a spare but it's not my first choice. I use a 3M Speedglas that I bought at a good price from CyberWeld. Once you get a quality helmet you'll not want to go back to the Chinese cheepo.
I've used a few HF helmets and they have been good for the money spent. After quite a few years of welding I noticed my eyes begining to hurt. So I recently stepped up to a miller "elite" series helmet... I will never go back to the HF if I can help it. Miller is costly, about 300 bones but the features are amazing and the comfort is outstanding as well. I've probably spent 200 on HF helmets in the past replacing broken ones or lenses and what not so the miller doesn't seem like a bad cost difference to me, as long as it can last me years that is.... just my 2 cents
The fog is starting to clear a little...HF = "Harbor Fright" huh? I bought one from "HF", the black and red one with the skeleton teeth (my dog hates it!) made by Redtail(?) but I have had second thoughts about risking using it. I don't really trust the Chinese cheap junk with these old eyes! That's what prompted my origional question.
I have a Miller 29 Roadster pickup Elite helmet, I bought from Quinby Welding Supply at there E-bay store. Paid $238.00,might be a little more now ,that was a year ago. sweet helmet, auto darkening, very light weight. Don't trust your eyes to that HF junk.
Buy a Huntsman hood and put an auto lens in it.It will probably be around 100 dollars for everything. You might have to trim the metal where the sensors on the auto lense are.Huntsmans are nice light hoods.Nothing pretty about them but theyre rad.Ive got two.
I have a harbor frieght and I do NOT think it is the best. When I have a little more free cash i will be buying a nicer one.
Thanks again to all you guys for sharing your personal experiences. That's the kind of advice I was looking for.
