i drive down firestone now and again after dark, but some of my fondest memories are of pulling right down that street at dusk and turning the corner into the neighborhood to park...we were young and anxious so we'd just hop the wall instead pf walking the extra 50 feet. you'd land feet first in the middle of all the cars. DJ would be spinning...we never had money to eat or buy a coke but there were cars. lots of cars. and old guys.

 

Kev, do you have Jim's Eamil so we can contact him directly?

The Drive-In is crucial! Dj is a cool idea...maybe a few creative events could be thrown...old movies on a portable "drive in" screen...bands in the parking lot...etc etc.

 

Kevin, put in charge of entertainment on the grand "re opening" !

 

perhaps contact KRTH 101 fm for a live remote.... they'll pump the beans outta the deal...

 

in the new book KUSTOMLAND there is a story about Watson at the Broiler...too kool,can't wait.......another reason to hit Pomona swap meet

Progress is happening! I went to check on the clean up and it is going on. I took a few shots to post, but when I tried to upload them it froze my computer. I'll try again in a few days. Hopefully, it will work better for me then.

But, it looks like we will be cruising in December, as we had hoped.

Thanks to all who worked to make this happen. My faith in humanity is much stronger now...

Man, It was sad watching the dozers tear this place apart and we were worried that we'd lose some key elements. Jim actually said stop @ one point.
I know that it loks like nothing right now, but give it a few more months and we'll have our Broiler back so all of us can enjoy it.

Glad to see this has been done...if people don't take an interest in their local history then every town and city suburb is gonna end up looking the same...a cluster **** of big box stores. Good job to all involved you're a fine example to us all.
