Hey we haven't told ya all of it yet, that half an Aussie is our built in entertainment system.
Not only is he the host and frontman of New Zealand hotrod TV www.theredshift.co.nz , and lead singer and guitarist for acclaimed NZ Rockabilly band The Voodoo Kreepers ,( check out the song "Getaway Deuce") but a well known solo artist in his own right.
We expect him to make random and spontaneous contributions to our build when he is not head down working on the car or off sourcing parts. ( he reckons he can weld too. )

Keen to do the Anti-Donut breakfast on Saturday 2nd - Bad Bob?

Then we are heading towards Sacramento then Reno and on to Bonneville for speedweek with the car we are going to build in 24 hours... After Bonneville we are heading to the HAMB Drags.....

Look forward to meeting a few off the HAMB - don't be shy - Kiwis don't bite!

It is going to be a blast! But you and RBM have got to learn - there is no time for sleep - something exciting might happen and you'll miss it!

Kiwis, beer, sheep, Denise's cookies, token Aussie, y'all sound good to go. LOL.

And the only reason customs would seize the cookies is they heard about em on the HAMB!

Would be pretty cool to watch this on web if it was arranged. Good luck to you all and travel safe.

We should be fine - we had a "test session" 2 weeks ago. Ricki sang and we drank beer. We all survived - but Jude, our token female blonde, drank us all under the table. I'm not sure if the USA is ready for Jude.... Tall, blonde, single, drinks like a fish...

The HAN are oganising the webcast side of things. Will post the details as soon as I know. Regardless, we'll be posting photos every hour or so. Does anyone have any good advice on cheap wireless internet connections in the USA? One where we can connect anywhere.....

You can connect with "free wi-fi" at the tourist stop in Bendover. But, you have to go inside........the gal said last year all the locals were using the wi-fi and the parking lot was full alot.

Thanks for the info - I did the same when I was in the USA last year. I found at the time Holiday Inn used the same password structure for each hotel, so would sit in the carpark and check my emails.....for free.

Is there a service in the USA where you can connect through the PCMIA thingy card in the laptop to a mobile broadband roaming service? In other words, connect to the internet at anytime, any place?

Great stuff Russell! Are there any Kiwis not going to Bonneville???

We are camping at the Bend. Ricki is keen to perform and has an entire night of Kiwi and Aussie classic rock songs ready to play. He'll be singing for beer money....OURS!!!

And Alfster..... we'll make sure there are Maverick plaques on the cars...

Bank roll??? Is that like HAMB ROLL??? :D

Janet, this is being done on a budget of next to nothing. 97 and I are bank rolling the building of the car - it will be coming back to NZ and auctioned at Beach Hop 09 - hopefully we'll make enough to cover the cost of the car while being able to donate some money to HAN Foundtion and Save the Salt. All the team members are paying their own way on the anti-tour.

In saying that, Makita has given us a bit of cash. However USA based Kiwis are right behind us! Grant Downing of NHRA Funny Car fame (Silver Fern Racing) is loaning all the safety gear for Speedweek - fire suit, parachute, fire system, etc etc. Duane Jones is there as well with bits and pieces, and there is an ex-pats Kiwi Club in Reno that includes a couple of Rodders. They are sorting all the local details out for us - Chris Prince (formerly Rod Bods) has just opened up "Kiwi Hot Rods" in Reno and has offered his fully equipped Rod Shop for us to use to get the car ready for Speedweek - roll cage, fit fire system, parachute etc.

Some USA based businesses have also approached us and will have parts available for us at the Swapmeet.

Why don't you come with us?

Oh christ on a crutch. Grant Downing and others involved? This has the makings of some sort of revolution or takeover attempt by Kiwi's. LOL. Everyone should be skeert.

And now that I am getting back into "gen pop" a tall blonde drunk girl sound pretty cool too! LOL.

Good luck boys and girls. Travel safe and do well. This has the makings of a fine production with some damn good humor thrown in as well.

(oh and a fine dining point for you Denise's cookies are perfect with beer. Like a good shiraz and a steak.)

Oh, shame - I had hoped that you were going to be able to tell me that some wildly rich American TV consortium had bank rolled it. Oh, hey maybe that is the twist, you know like it Oprah's big give away thingy :D

No seriously, I am sure you will have a great time and wish you all the best. I know there will be lots of laughs, especially with Ricki and Leakers along.

I would love to be there with you all, but I have to be in Christchurch for work

Looking forward to catching up .......

Not that you guys will have time at Bonneville, but make sure that you go visit the old Army barracks.......just a driving tour in Wendover.......you can almost see the ghosts walking around. And the hangar were the Enola Gay was kept is still there.

A rich American TV consortium???? Nah - not this time. But maybe after they've seen Leakers (97) and Ricki in action we might get PAID to do this next year?

Enjoy Christchurch..... take Simon's long johns - it'll be snowing! That's why Stare is heading to the USA - can't handle the cold any longer.... :D

He will be driving a Ford Paul so don't worry about keys.
The Olds will be tucked up in a nice safe warm container by then.
    Won't it Mr Watts?;)
