Hurst made a kit to put 331 in early Ford. They are on e bay from time to time around $250. I have a set I could take pictures of if you want (mine are not for sale) to try to duplicate. 331 looks better than any motor in 35-40 Ford. Better than a Hemi ( I know because I have a Hemi in 40 Ford). JMOHO
Yub, I saw a 36 ford pick up with 331 mill yesterday at the fairplex swapmeet in pomona ca. He is running them hurst mounts. Seems like they sit right were the biscuits mounts on your flathead motor. Oh yeah and the firewall was kept stock!!!
here's an awesome '36 ford from out in western PA somewhere. think it's a 365 though...can't remember. raced him at Sunset dragstrip about 2 years ago, and won! only because he messed up his ******
i can't remember, but he may have had to recess it that much to clear the pump for his injection system... i know someone on here knows him and can tell you for sure. it is pretty tight in there. even putting a 59 AB in there you have to use the '36 generator mount otherwise the fan will not clear. I'm guessing you will indeed need a recessed firewall to run a fan, or go electric like Myke says and maybe get by without recessing.
I don't think you'll have much trouble. I put a 50 Cad in my 48 Ford. The only trouble I had was the column shift linkage hit the exhaust. I when to a 39 floor shift case and cap with all the 48 gears. Works good. Your 35 might have a smaller engine compartment. I just bent some 1/4x4" steel to make motor mounts and drilled the frame for doughnut's. The adapter plate is a relatively cheap speedway part. Flywheels I see regularly on ebay. Gary
i don't have any. these aren't even my pictures really. i found them on the web somewhere. i don't recall there being any closeups on the page i lifted them from. i didn't bring a camera to the strip that day. maybe someone out there just reading this does have some photos for ya.
