Plans: 365" 8BA with T-5 and parallel leafs. Flatman, you should have slowed down. This is hot rod heaven!!:D

  5. Good for you.

    Buildin' a hot rod.

41 business coupes, one of my all time favorites.

People forget a lot of the 49 & 50 Mercs as well as the fat fendered Fords were hot rods.

Some chops look good on these cars, but for Chrissake, it's not an official requirement.

I'd rather see a hot rod 41 than another chopped fat fender custom and I'd really like to see somebody build a hot rod out of a 49 or 50 Merc, but sadly, where the Mercs are concerned no one has the balls to swim against the tide.

My pal's got a 46 sedan and it's more hot rod than custom.
Nice part is, it runs a solid front axle, has disc brakes up front and handles well.
    Rides good too.

Coil spring front ends on these cars aren't really necessary.

A 365" flatmotor sounds awfully big though, but, if it's a do-able deal, great....

Looks good. Like C9 said hot rod. I'm not against chopping them but many guys screw up chopping them.

  7. nice score , congrats!

  8. Tell me about the 365" flatty. The largest we ever built for Bonneville was 324 and we kept it under 5,000 rpm to keep it together.

    Oh Hell, I can't type worth a damn. That is 265" . (4" crank .060 over)Sorry about that----------365 huh? Wheeeew!!!

Gonna build a real hot rod, Yessir. The car will remain stock bodied. I'm even keeping the drip rails on it. I was raised in the 50s and we never heard of anything but a straight axle in thses things.

With such little rust I'm going to guess that this is not originally a NY car.

I really don't know the history. It p***ed hands a few times before I bought it. It has zero rust. Ch***is is perfect and completely stock. I Think that it was parked for a very long time. Appears to have been an old hot rod as the trim holes are poorly filled with bondo. It will be stripped and the holes welded up.

Just because a car's chopped doesn't mean it has to lose the drip rails. This one didn't. Who do you think chopped a top first? A hot rodder or a customizer?

That sure would be hard to cool!! I'll stick with the 4' stroke and small bore. They run forever for me. Mine is in the test stand now waiting to be fired up.
