Leave a chop. Not a lot of them get to stay coupes. Plus, I have a Sport Coupe and I'm partial to having a top on it.
i hope like hell you arent cuttin that one up... chop, leave the top, hopefully on a more beat up one
Someone once said ther are no dumb questions................guess that guy was wrong. You have one of the nicest body styles Ford ever made. Build a clone of the Joe Mac Sport Coupe if you need a model.
I am kind of digging it the way it is, but I say chop it, they look great chopped. Then fix the paint around the chop + then trim top as needed and maybe pump up the motor some and call it done. I wish that baby was mine.
Hey Concreteman, didn't we already do something like this?! I really think you should go with a chop and most certainly not lose the top altogether. You've got the makings a really fine hot rod and I think losing the top could really spoil that. If you want a roadster, trade your body with a restorer, I'm sure they'd love a sport coupe body as cherry as yours.
If you end up cutting the roof off, PLEASE contact me so i can get the parts you remove so i can put a top on mine !!
1st of all Nice car Chop it, take the top off, I know a guy that did both He took a 80's Eldorado, he cut the top off at the beltline removed it fabricated the parts to attached the top at the windshild using push ****on seat belt buckles at the roof panels the blades were attached to the top & the buckle ends were concealed with fabric It won't come off and you have to push both to remove it. The beltline molding covered the gap, You couldn't tell you could do this to most cars The best of both worlds, have the look & get the sun
Man, don't do it. That thing is sick... Look for pics of Chris or Elrods Model A coupes. Their cars are so tasteful with fenders on, Elrod has a slight chop, Chris doesn't. Both perfect examples of Hot Rod A's. If you have to chop it, take like 2 1/2 out of it... it will look hard, but still remain some cl***. Love your car, that 3/4 rear angle is almost perfect, lower a litttle more....done. What are you doing as fas as drive train? Can't find any examples of chops... but stuff it down if you want or have to like these... You'll have a killer ride. If you wanna roadster, buy a roadster...there out there.
Yeah, but do that with a body like this if you want to be creative... Not with what you have. Man, I 'll buy you a roadster body 1st... Besides, the correct doors and cowl will give you a roadster, then you can sell the rest. I vote buy a roadster and leave this one alone. I was at a junkyard yesterday watching a fork lift ***wipe punch holes in late 60's cars and trucks, even that got me sick.
Yes you sent me all the information on your chop ,great pictures and step by step how to ,I have read it many times GREAT stuff, I guess I am still CHICKEN its a complete and nice car ,but I do want a Hot Rod
First, don't remove the top! Now that that's out of the way, why not go ahead and work with it like it is? There is obviously a lot you can do to bring it to "Hot Rod" status. Get the stance as low as you can while retaining the fenders. A healthy rake is fine. Swap in a hopped up flathead, and leave the hood off. Use a dropped headlight bar. Paint it a solid color (black is hard to beat), and match up the wheels. '48 caps and rings would be ***s. If you get this far, you'll be having so much fun standing out in a sea of other "A"'s, you may learn to love it for the beauty that it is. If you still want to chop it, you're sure to see it through. If this doesn't sound like a plan, you should probably trade for a roadster body.
It's not about being chicken, it's about making the right choice for you. It seems to me you like the originality of the car, so a chop along with a hopped up banger would be a natural progression, you'll be using all that you already have to achieve the end result, all bar a few hop up goodies and a slice here and there. I'm not a fan of "coupsters" (who the hell thought up that name?), it's certainly not something that was done with any regularity back in the day, not that sport coupes were that popular either, but keeping the roof would certainly be truer to a vintage style hot rod.
