Magnacharger makes a kit. Think that's their name. Used to see ads in the Mopar mags. Like you I've had fun smackin alla the other stuff around down with MOpower. Don't think ya really Need a blower though. Unless you're goin after other blown cars, you'd just be givin the compe***ion an excuse for why they just got their *** handed to em by a Dodge Boy! One big carb and the right cam should do the trick! Don't know about you, but I could even make my old R/T sound pretty tame by dialing back the timing about 14 degrees from race trim.
Proven? To whom? All the other small block Chevy guys? Plentiful? Yes. Cheap? Yes. Most versatile? Easiest to obtain more HP out of vs any other engine ever produced?? That statement is so ludicrous that I wonder why I even bothered responding.
don't let the *******s bum ya out. i'm puttin a poly motor in my T roadster at least it ain't a crate chevy. i guarantee you won't soon pull up next to some jack*** with a duplicate drivetrain!
I can tell it's a truck motor by the valve cover sticker... and is that a Stromberg WW in the background? You know, if it made the difference between being grounded and actually driving the car for a while until you get the engine you want built, why the hell not put a SBC in? At least you could be out driving your ride and enjoying it in the meantime, you know? It's not like it'll be in there forever... and besides, you can always trade it later to somebody that wants to get rid of some "**** MoPar junk" for it! ~Jason
I've thought about putting my '69 440 in my '48 Chevy coupe, just to be different! MoPower to ya with that Mopowered Ford!!
I just prefer to use what I like and what I have on hand. In the time I was working auto parts I was sometimes refered to as the Mopar "expert". I just knew them better than the rest of the guys there. I always liked the say to the Chevy guys, "It takes more brains to work a Mopar than a Chevy." I was always asked why, I then expplained a ***** could build a Chevy, just put the biggest of everything you get in them. That doesn't take any brains. I also built a few Chevys and Fords. All of them screamed. Put a NASCAR prepped SCJ in a buddies truck, A week later he got a ticket for racing, WITH his car trailer and car behind it!! And won!! I have built them all (but no rice burners), but prefer Mopar.
You would if you pulled up next to me cos I've got a poly in a T-bucket but there's the Pacific Ocean separating us LOL. You can tell that's a truck motor by the high mounted water pump and the engine mount coming off the timing cover. Mine started out as a truck version but I changed the timing cover and water pump over to a car version. swifty
Holy oil filter clearance, Batman! How's those headers coming along, Jay? Swifty, I see we're not the only ones with a P600 (or a few, in your case)! ~Jason
29Jay, I believe you can still get the 340 90 degree filter adapter for that. It will certainly make it easier to get to.
Lloning, Thanks for the tip! I need to call around and get one befor I move too much further forward. Header flanges are made, but I hit a snag a few weeks back with fitting the body. Cant built them until the body is located. flanges look tuff though
You could leave it that way and tell everybody that if they don't have to jack their motor up to change the filter then they're pussies... ~Jason
Freak'n Funny I told one guy while still in mock up that i had room to spin it off and slide it out. Only I had not tried it yet cuz I did not need to dump the fresh oil... lol
29jay, if you do a check with the filter companies I'm sure you could find a filter with the same mounting details but about half the length. I will check when I'm in the shed cos that's what I'm doing with my poly in the 32. Just going to change it more often. Most of the modern stuff use smaller filters nowadays and have even longer oil change periods- supposedly due to the better oils. I have a different problem than you cos my steering shaft wants to go right where the filter is at present. swifty
The standard Fram filter( I prefer Wix but know some of the Fram numbers better) is PH 43, the PH 16 is shorter, the Wix 51335 is 2". I've heard the Wix 51311 is slightly longer than the 51335. Mopar Performance sells the 90 deg adaptor for over 120$ the last time i noticed. Ford Motorsports sells thiers for 54.94, last time I checked.
29jay, the Mopar Performance part # is 5249624, it is also listed a $135.00. Try some of the yards, maybe you can find 1 off of a 273. I know I had one in an old 66 'Cuda from the factory.
Unfortunately NO!!! I'm going for full rego, not the limited use street rod stuff and have to comply with lots of ugly **** like all lights must meet Australian Design Rules, my 40 dash must be padded, steering column has to be collapsible, engine immobiliser must be fitted, seats have to have headrests etc, etc. But I will comply and please the engineer just to get those plates. Things may change after I've got them tho. George those right angle adapters- I gather from your post that the Ford and Mopar interchange? I was actually thinking of a remote filter, what is available for this setup? Have already spent $50 on a late model fitting so I could use the spin-on filter but looks like it's not the answer. Thanx for all the info. swifty
Ford & Mopar V8s use the same base on the oil filter. The Ford Fl-1a or PH-8A filter is just a longer version of the PH-43 Mopar filter. the 90 deg adaptor spins on to your modern filter mount.
George, I am a little confused. I have not seen the Ford adapter. The Mopar one is a direct bolt on to the block. It uses a long hollow bolt. If you use the short ******, plate and gasket, the filter screws right to the block. With the right angle adapter you just leave the plate off and install the bolt and gasket. Am I missing something about the Ford????
OK, you have the modern spin on adaptor in place on your block so you can put the spin on filter on . Instead of putting the filter on it, you put the 90 deg adaptor on, it spins on like the filter. Then you put the spin on filter on! it's for extractor clearance on a LA 318.
So the Ford adapter will spin onto the ****** that is in the block? That would make it a lot easier to get some more clearence. I will have to check that one out. Thanks for the info.
Yeah it just spins on, I ***umed( yeah, I know) that the Mopar one did also. Wondered why they charged so much for it. The remote oil filter adaptors used on Crown Vic Police Interceptors just spin on also. You can also get the shorter filters discussed earlier.
Thanks, George. Looks like I have to do more looking at the Ford stuff for other neat things. Not really a Ford fan, but don't dislike them either.
On the Crown Vic PI it's actually the oil cooler adaptor, but it probably wouldn'y care if it led to a remote filter instead!
George that's the info I was after as I have a very nice O'Brien truckers repop Hildebrandt unit which I would like to use on my build. Unfortunately Crown Victoria Police Interceptors never made it over here so that part will be hard to find. swifty
