My son recently bought this (Ford powered) early '50s Chevy pick-up. It is fairly complete, but has no bed.Does anyone have suggestions on where to buy a bed new or used? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Bob

If you want new, check out Chev of the 40's, Dixie Truck Works, or Mar-K Enterprises. They have every part to build a brand new bed, and Mar-K even has a complete kit!

Used, try Craigslist, Ebay, and the HAMB cl***ifieds.

    Good luck and nice ride!

I'm sure LMC would have all the parts for a new bed...prices just went up recently though

Check out your local version of an "Auto Trader" paper-they usually have ads for truck parts including new/used/take-off pickup boxes. The late model Chevy Stepside looks surprisingly good on the '48-'54 Chevy trucks.

It need's the late 47/53 style bed to be right. Most of what I have found used are in worse shape than the one I have been looking to replace.
If you look at a used one, check for rust in the areas where and below where the floor of the bed meets the sides and the front of the box. You can get new fenders in steel or gl*** but they aren't cheap.

Another consideration is building a decent looking flatbed for the truck.

If you were a little closer there are a few in a couple local junkyards but buying a new kit might be a little better due to the rust

June 26-28 is the Carsile Car show in PA. Not far from you either . That's a good place or place a WANTED ad on Craigs List . I have gotten many parts that way cheap ! Good luck and keep us posted on your son's truck !

We actually did buy a new bed from Mar-k Truck Parts. We have had it together and on the truck, then took it apart again for painting. The bed is definately of very high quality. It bolted together and fit the ch***is perfectly. The people at Mar-K crated it so well that there wasn't so much as a scratch in any of the components. Nice to deal with people that give two s**ts.

I love a "wet black" paint job. Do it yourself? Looks just right.
