I'm thinking of making a custom grille for my '56 chevy 210 sedan. Anyone have any ideas or pictures of some you've seen? Any input is appreciated
Well bars have been done and redone. How 'bout bullets and drawer knobs. or just one or the other? It doesn't look like my '53 is gonna sell so I'm going with the original plan on it. A floating bar made from a '50 ford grill with the round doodad removed. You might just float something in the middle and call it good.
If I changed it at all ( I like '56 Chevys the way GM made them, 'cept for the name badges and door handles...) it would be a tube grill all the way across with just legal turnsignals hid behind and betweem the bars and no bumper guards...clean is the word. Shave the front of the hood but keep the "bird" on it. Everyone shaves the hood ornament, that's just "stock custom treatment", be different, leave it on.
you can check out the "58 chevy custom grill" topic too!!! here's one of my all time favorit 56 -- not the grille only - but
An x brother in law had a 60 olds grill in his 56. It looked pretty cool, the only thing i did not like was the reliefs for the headlites on the ends... I have not seen another...
Snag a copy of the latest R&C...there's a '58 that used two '60 Olds grills/ It would at least give you an idea...
Thanks for the suggestions and pics. The tube grille was my first thought, but now I'm thinking something a litle wilder. We'll just see what happens.
There's a 57 Chevy rolling around Phoenix with a 57 Buick grill in place. It is one of the best looking 57s I've ever seen. Here's a pic of a 57 Buick front end from the Carnut page...
Lousy pic, but here's a pic of a '57 Chevy with a '57 grill. Pic was taken at the Gettysburg, PA. KKOA show last month and was driven by one of the Lost Kustoms from Buffalo, NY. Nice car, a lot nicer than the pic makes it look.
