I gotta buddy who works for Steve Frisbee at Steves' Auto Restorations in Portland, Or. He just send me these teaser photos of the new 3 window body coming out......he really knows how to hurt a guy. I NEED a good pair of 1/4s for my 5 window and he knows it.....just taunts me with this ****. Behold................. Rocky
I don't have enough fingers and toes to compute the price...also, I dont' know as they haven't released the bodies for public consumption yet.
Man, I can imagine the time and effort that goes into something like this. Not to mention the dollar investment. They sure do look nice.
Just saw SAR's ad for the new coupe in the current issue of Street Scene. Looks good, but I'm sure it'll be too rich for me.
The best part about these new bodies is that the parts to rebuild our old bodies ( I mean coupes ) . Now , Rocky, lets get those quarters and get started on the ol coupe. Maybe you could order an extra pair and cross your fingers and hope that they are still attached to a new body.
$30,000 boys and girls, You might as well have then chop one 3" before they strap it to a pallet and ship it. After 30 grand a PERFECT chop can't be that much, right? If you've ever seen any of SAR's work the chop WOULD be perfect. Frank
Oh Yea, they're offering perfect fenders also. Why not order two and then you'll have a hiboy and a full fendered one. You're VISA is paid up isn't it? You only live once......................go for it. You could whimp out and buy one of those cheap Brookvilles. Then you'd only have to listen to everyone taunt you for your lack of balls. Frank
If they were stamped in China they would be cheaper, but so would the quality. They are stamped in Detroit by the same company that SAR has used for years with their roadster bodies. The latest scanning technology (first project to utilize this new equipment) was used for these bodies. The quality would make Henry proud. Body number one will debut at the NSRA Nats in Louisville!!!
SAR will chop the top for $7500.00 and fill the roof for another $1300.00. Fenders are about $3,000.00.
Yes, they are stamped in the USA . Like they say, "you get what you pay for". In this case SAR went the extra step and followed the OEM approach by stamping the complete body side as a whole unit to ensure body side dimensional management and 'E' coated all of the panels and provides a 10 year warranty against corrosion on the panels. Here are some photos of the tools and stampings. Cool stuff!
I'll take 2. 34 3 windows have the most evil looking stance with right chop. Even better than a deuce! (I can't believe I just said that!!)
Here is the first SAR 3 window with the new 'tooled' fenders scheduled for Louisville. Dang, that will sure save a bunch of time on paint prep!
As a 34 coupe owner and dyed in the wool 34 lover, it's just an incredible sight for me to see the pics of the tooling and stacks of body panels!!! Thanks for sharing the pics. As for it being a "limited run", I'd say only as limited as the life of the tooling. At 30k a pop they'll want to sell as many as they can. I'm wondering how many will have to be sold to make the ROI/break even point? This has to be a huge, up front investment.
Hot Rods to Hell, I agree with you, they are going to sell the most they can. I am sure glad Steve spent the time and investment to do it right, but I would not expect anything less from him. As for limited editions, this one may be the one you are thinking of. The difference is the proportions and length have been radically revised, plus this is an all aluminum body with lift off hardtop.
I had to sell my old 'vette to get the $$$ but I bought a pair of new SAR quarters, subrails and inner and outer panel below the decklid for my old decrepid 34 five window....damn nice parts for sure! Body gets ***embled and fitted to the frame next week. I plan to build it like Jeff Norwell's ilustration except for 40 ford wheels and caps...got just about all the parts now.
