A few of you suggested I lean the radiator more on my '33 (and I agreed it needed more slope). After some tinkering I was able to lean it back 2" which I think makes a big difference. Again, things are tight with the nailhead and I can't recess the firewall. looks better but i think it could lean back just a little more.i love the stance of your car.nice work
That is one tuff looking 33. I really like the stance. I know how tight the clearance behind the radiator is, so if you can't lean the grill back, you might try kicking the bottom forward for a similar effect. Here is a quick concept of the grill/radiator pulled forward and down. In my humble opinion, the rad struts, even though they are skinny little elements, really influence the proportions on a hoodless rod, so I find it important to line the struts to visually extend the base car lines. The jpeg attached will give you an idea of what I am referring to. My 2 cents worth!
Can't lean the radiator any more.....I've got only a half-inch between the fan and the water pump pulley (and I hate pusher fans). That plus I'm as far out on the radiator tabs as I can go. I played with kicking the grill out more on the bottom, but that screwed things up too (stuck past the frame horns which I definitely didn't like). -Lee Atomic Radio www.atomicpinup.com
Now that's slick.....I may try kicking the grill one more time at the bottom to match your photo. I really appreciate the concept picture. -Lee Atomic Radio www.atomicpinup.com
It looks like you ran into something (with the grille like it is)!! I think (but what do I know?!) that the grille sheel needs to come DOWN a pinch and also lean back a bit more. Bob the frame horns or whatever...but a 33/34 grille sitting that "upright" looks funky...
No problem Lee, I am glad to help. I am a sucker for any 33-34, especially one that is as nice as yours. You might want to try to unbolt the strut rods and set them down a few inches to mock up the appearance, to see if you think it will make a difference. I think it will be worth the effort. Good Luck!
You're right about the rods. I may make an offset that bolts to the radiator tab that drops them 2" or so. That plus another 2" kick on the bottom of the shell should get me close. -Lee Atomic Radio www.atomicpinup.com
I try to keep the propotions of the grill to cowl tight on a hoodless 33-34, when the distance is too long, it looks out of proportion. But there are some visual tricks that can be done to keep the proportions in check. 2 inches will not be a problem, I ended up pulling the bottom mount forward almost 3 inches and lowered about 1.5". I also ended up sectioning my grille shell and radiator approx 4 inches to finally get it to where (I thought) it looked right...
