I just bought a parts car, a 1967 Lincoln 4 door Continental for my 2 door project hot rod...the parts car is outside behind a friend's garage, next to the woods, under trees, no doors, no hood, no seats so access to the trunk from behind the back seat is open!!! I hear mothballs work to keep the snakes out and mice? I have a tarp over it and have a rag over the intake but need to stuff the holes with something they will not use for a nest! I dont want to pull the tarp back and find Peppy-Le-Pew staring at me and letting loose. I will pull the carpet and any material I can so they are less willing to try to use the carpet for a nest. Any other remedies to keep the wildlife out of my parts car??? I would piss around the car, but that wont keep 'em out..only dogs! Thanks a million.
Moth balls work, but you've got to be sure you buy the "old fashioned" version made with naptha. I've also heard that Bounce dryer sheets work.
Can you tack weld or attach chicken wire to the door openings with screws? At least that will keep the larger wildlife out of the interior and trunk. Chers, Glen.
with no doors and open to the elements theres not a lot you can do , are you concerned about water damage or rust ?? if its not gonna be there long put a sprinkler next to it if possible , most critters hate water except the flyin kind.. or get yourself one of these..
LOL! Thanks for all the 'practical' responses like a gun and a man eating dog and for the advice on not living where I happen to live..near the woods!!! Fresh out of guns and killer dogs so I will just have to cut that thing up quick and get it out of there...but I need time to do that. Fresh outa that too, but I'm workin on it. Any other smart cracks or advice out there??? Thanks!
I use several things that seam to work. I dont know if just one or all together work as a combo. The first is Ivory bar soap in some sort of a nylon bag. Let this hang in the car. Next also is soap simple green or any that will burn the nose or eyes of the critter. The last is human hair just ask any barber or hairdresser for some .****ter it in and around the car and the animals will think a human is around. Posion bait that dries the varmit from the inside. Do not put out if you have dogs as they will eat the bait or the dead animal. The last is traps. Many types talk to a t****r or a place that sells farm supplys they may also have some products avaiable. I hope this helps.. Bobby..
What works are Camfer thats what in real moth balls not naptha, yeah sure there toxic to humans and animals but isn't that the idea to keep the little ****ers out of the car. Trust me a few dead squirrels ain't gonna hurt and when they see their dead buddy laying there they are gonna be like holly **** what happen to that sorry *******. Another thing that is guaranteed to work is Boraxo laundry soap. There is a substance in it called Borate bug, insect, animals hate the stuff. If they get it on the little bug feet they die insects will not cross a line of borate fact. I have it lining my ba*****t and haven't seen a critter in 5 years. The only problem is your keeping this pile of rust outside so you will have to freshen up the stuff fairly regularly. Maybe pour lines of it inside the door openings etc.
put out a dish of anything a animal would eat and mix in some antifreeze, they wont come back.....ever!
Dryer sheets of any brand (not just Bounce) - ****ter a few under the hood, in the interior, in the trunk, in the exhaust pipe. and around the car and shop. Mice hate them. The majority of Stude club members endorse this "fix".
Great! That is a relatively cheap fix if you ask me! Dryer sheets it is for now. The hair clumps one sounds good so I just need to pull out the scissors and give me a mut cut! I dont think I've paid for a hair cut in 6 years come to think of it. Anyways, thanks for the responses! Appreciate it.
An old rancher told me...just piss all over your motor... OR...use Mountain Lion urine... He didn't say where you get Mountain Lion piss..but he looked like he might know.. Hadn't tried either.. I work on my cars..
dryer sheets keep the mice out of my cars... but we've got chickens: the *******s destroy the wiring. got into one car, wires under the dash were all a mess. another car, i saw 'em pecking at the brake hoses. they're trying to kill me. if they keep it up, shake-n-bake.
Wouldn't a thought of putting dryer sheets in the exhaust pipe, but that does make a lot of sense. Thanks, Stude guys.
Hope you're not on a well or plan on working on the car with this kind of advice. Check this thread to see what happens with that stuff.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=224241
Dryer sheets are also good at keeping mosquitos at bay, just rub them on your exposed skin and they repel them.
tile the floor with rat traps. no bait neccesary. or you could tether a angry cat inside, or a small dog. that would be mean to do to a dog though
