... I am! I'm going for the first time all of next week and am pretty damned excited about it! Sure boss, I'll be "investigating new technologies," and will totally ignore the multiple P-51's, P-38's, B-17's, B-24's, Spitfires... Anyway, just thought it'd be cool to meet some other HAMBers, so give a shout if you're going and maybe we can put something together.
Have fun, I'm jealous. You'll be in sensory overload by mid-way on the first day. If you need to decompress, take some time and go to the sea plane base....very laid back atmosphere on the lake.
Ben there ,done that.I've gone about 4 or 5 times over the years and always had great days! I liked the parts swap best .It's always nice to see other people so in love with "other " machines... PAUL
Used to go in the early 90's when I was at Eastwood to do "research" for the die cast models I was in charge of. At least that's what I told the owner. Ya gotta check out their "Fly Market" there is always cool stuff that can be retrofitted in to our cars. Bought a tail fin off God know what, cut it down a bit and turned it into the tail fin on the Garlits Swamp Rat 33 streamliner. I love thinking out side the box. Have a great time, and be sure to check out the flying car in the museum.
Definately go to the Sea plane base, damn sure take some good walking shoes, (That place is big) sun screen and a good hat, other than a ball cap would be better. Make sure your camera's batteries are charged good, even a spare, and a "FULL' memory card. The swap meet is neat, you might just find some stuff that will work on 4 wheels, instead of 4 wings. Even go over to the EAA building if you have time, lots of good stuff in there too. That place can be a sensory overload.. Enjoy and bring us back a pic and a (tail ) tale or two of your escapade. the SMA diesel powered maule is going to be there hopefully, lots of guys at the plant have been working long hours i mean really long hours to get it ready for the show. they had to make a lot of changes involving tearing it down to a basic airframe and rebuilding it back up. so check it out while you are there. I never thought it would get done in time, last week it was being weighed for a new weight and balance so it's almost ready.
We went last year for the first time. Friggen unbelievable! Some serious history there. The high speed flyby's on the airstrip are something you'll never forget!
We'll be there on Saturday, I like the swap parts also, I bought some cool bomber seatbelts for $10 last year. Lots of inspiration to see....
I live 15-20 minutes north of the grounds and my shop is in Oshkosh so it is always easy for us to go. It is always a blast....and a lot of walking. I usually go on the grounds for one day and we watch the airshow every day from the lake on the boat. They fly right over us and you can see it well from the lake. My house is near the Appleton airport so we get to see a lot of sweet ass planes flying directly over for refueling. My girl's father is flying his plane over for the show this year, should be fun. We rent out our lower level for the show each year. We have had the same people come for a few years now, they are a lot of fun. I have one room available from now until Wednesday for sure, if anyone needs a place to stay. My place is very nice and an easy drive to the airport. Lots of room and we have a swimming pond and a nice wet bar, wifi, cable and free long distance. Anyone is welcome to stop by my shop mornings during EAA week if you need advice on where to park, good places to eat, etc. I usually close about 2:30-3pm to go out on the boat for the airshow each afternoon.
All I have to say is...GET PIC'S OF THAT JET PACK!!!!! The guy was on the radio yesterday and I was going crazy. I went to their website but they are holding it close to the vest. PLEASE take some pic's for me...Thanks!
mama fiddy is gonna be workin the tower sunday and monday, and i'm prolly going to be there sunday for a while.
Yikes, I hope the weather is better today than last night, I wouldn't want to be flying in anything much smaller than an MD-80 and above that stuff. We had cloud tops between here and the Iowa line that were nearly to the stratosphere. I hope they got through safely.
yea, i watched that storm roll along to the southwest last night at about midnight... lotta flashes and from what you could see in the lightning, it was a tall somebitch
I'm about 25-30 miles south of Oshkosh, bring your rods down for some striping or graphics. LoneWolfGrafx.com
We're flying out of Phoenix tomorrow afternoon, so hopefully that weather in the middle of the country clears up some. We're on a 6-seat jet and I'm not looking forward to seeing all the other folks' faces buried in the puke-purse! I'm definitely PUMPED to see all I can! The seaplane base sounds awesome. I didn't see any PBY's or similar craft scheduled... do some of the bigger watercraft usually show up? BadBob, if there's a jetpack, I'm all over it... Wingnutz... are you going to be in the yellow T-6 in your avatar?
My wife and I went to Oshkosh four years ago. The event was pretty darned cool! The weather was sorta drizzly the first day, which kept the crowds down, but things cleared up in time for the warbird flybys. Nothing quite like seeing 10 or so P-51s buzzing the main runway, plus the bombers doing their strafing runs! The second day was clear but windy, so we toured the museum and all the other displays. It worked out well for us. We hope to get up there again in the next few years.
