Well, I'm a newbie gal with a 1940 Ford Deluxe Business Coupe. It was my husbands pet project but he hadn't finished it before he p***ed away. Of course I'm thinking what in the world am I going to do with an OLD car! ( I drive a 2002 Jeep wrangler everyday) So I let it sit in storage for a couple of years. Even paid insurance on it. Well, one day I'm thinking about that OLD car and say to myself, what a waste! I took it out of storage and I decided to finish MY pet project. I know my hubbie's probably really angry at me now because I've made some (OK a lot) of changes. He was creating a streetrod. Polished aluminum instrument panel, air conditioning, automatic roll-up windows, power seats, etc... SORRY! but I don't think there is anything better looking in 40 Ford Coupe the the original dash! The instrument cluster with the art-deco numbers and letters is sooo cl***y! It only takes 4 cranks to roll up the windows and with the wing-windows and hood cowl vent who needs air conditioning! I'm the only driver so why move the seat around. Anyway, all that fancy electrical stuff means more things can go wrong, especially for someone that is NOT a mechanic. Oh yeah, it's not going to be painted teal either. Dark maroon/brown with pearl.
Welcome from another Wa****onian! Sounds like your saving that '40 from streetrod doom....... Post up some pics when ya get a chance...
Welcome! Yay---more ladies! How exciting. It can be a scary man's world and I have been tortured staying around getting oogled at car shows and being treated "like a girl" but it's worth it. Congrats on picking up the torch and running with it. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, though, and I know that this must have been a very challenging decision for you and I respect the bravery!! I have a Buick myself, but there are plenty of Fords at the house, too. We have some knowledge, and if you need anything from a female perspective, don't hesitate to PM me.
Congrats!!!.... Same as you, im a ****er for art deco, and the dashes on old cars are a great example of it. Your husband would be happy knowing your enjoying the car, no matter what you do to it. Have fun, and good luck!!!
I have owned my 40 Ford Coupe since 1965. First car for me and still going strong after 3 rebuilds over the years. I couldn't agree more on your choices. I love the 40 Car Dashs so much I just installed one in my 40 pickup.
Right on!! Another car chick from the great NW!! I like the plans you have for the '40. I agree on the dash sitch - it's an art piece! And really, with the NW do you need A/C? Welcome to the HAMB!
Want to say thanks for the warm welcome! I'm finding out the hardest thing about MY pet project is locating stock parts. Especially the ones people throw out, i.e. the front seat! Does anyone know if other makes or models have a split seat that is the same size?
Well, right now it's not much to look at. It's at the painters. When I drove it in it was primer gray but there was quite a number of things that needed repair. The people that had worked on it before basically just painted over some of the body rust. The trunk floor had to be replace, lower rear panels and the lower sections of the doors had some rust. Jim, my painter, took the car completely apart and did the repairs, put it back together and got everything lined up, he wasn't happy with the doors so took them off again (Great for me that he's a perfectionist!). He even finished the floor. The car will be painted inside and out. The body has to come back off so WE (yep! I get to help) can finish the the frame, it's primer gray also and I don't think that would look to great with the maroon/brown body color. Anyway, I know I've got pics that show how the car looked before the overhaul. I'll figure out how to get them posted here. And thanks for all the messages!
Sounds like you're a traditionalist. Cool. Welcome to the family. We'll see you at Hotrodarama right? The Swiss Tavern in Tacoma. Friday night and all day Sat. Come check it out. B
