weekends about over what did you get done?

  1. Yardwork, more yardwork, oh, and more yardwork. Anyone remember Paul Newman in "Blaze"? When he shot his lawnmower with a 12 guage? It's a good thing I don't own a shotgun.......

On the plus side I scored big time at a garage sale. Got a Craftsman road chest with a bunch of Proto, Craftsman, Westward, MAC, and Snap-On tools for a hundred beans.....

Made some cross channels for bed to support wood.Got a junk yard drive shaft for 20 just needs cut down.

  3. Picked up the new toy on Saturday - the '48 Chevy Aerosedan I've been talking about. Sunday, I mowed. Cleaned the shop and washed a couple of the cars. Decided to straighten out my toolbox, too. Pretty productive weekend.

No yardwork for me, but I did get "cultured" by going to the theater w/ my wife Friday night. Good thing there was whiskey there...

Worked on the beater a little bit. Does anyone know a good welder who could bring his equipment to the house to weld in a replacement panel below the trunk lid on a '49 Chevy car? I'm in Houston..... don't trust my skills on this job.

Danyelle helped me bleed the brakes, got the battery cable ran, installed the fuel pump block off, water pump, and even started it up and went thru the gears on jack stands.

Hit 3 car shows on Saturday, spent the weekend overall looking for a (late model replacement, family) car and truck, cut my grass before more thunderstorms rolled in this afternoon, and did some bookwork at the office but unfortunately spent zero time in the garage.

Next 2 weekends will be at the track with the NFC I crew on so the garage stuff will have to wait.

PS. Stude - My condolences and prayers are with you.

  10. Sweated my arse off driving to Sachse from Fort Worth to a car show. Not many hot rods, but I enjoyed the drive and the sweet little Italian pizza place next door.

  13. Lets see....

On Friday after work, I replaced all the rotten clap board on the rear of my garage, and took off the rest of the rotten stuff. Need to buy more clapboard.

On Saturday I pulled the engine/trans out of the Caprice parts car. It sucks doing it all by yourself. There was a ton of stuff bolted to that engine!

Today I went to the shop and waited all after noon for the guy who was supposed to be buying the caprice rolling chassis and he never showed up. He left some crappy messages on my cell phone because he forgot the address and I don't get reception at the shop. I told him I don't get reception up there.

Needless to say, the caprice parts car is still for sale. Doh.

At least I got the engine all cleaned up and painted, with the new intake and valve covers installed, and got the shop cleaned up.

I was busy with family stuff all weekend, so I took Thursday off and worked on finishing up my frenched tail lights. Two '56 Chevy bullets with custom buckets frenched into each of the Plymouth quarters about 2 inches. It looks pretty sweet. I also began making a mount for my master cylinder, cut the air fitting holes in my 1/4" C-channel bridge for my rear airbags, and cleaned up the steering wheel that I am going to use - a '63 Chrysler rectangular wheel.

I was able to set the engine and trans in my 37 Friday. Spent most of the day Saturday screwing off in the pool and keep the beer fridge busy. Started grinding on my rear axle today prepping for the dreaded set-up of the pinion angle. Oh yeah- more pool time and beer!

I did pretty good. Got all the 4-link brackets welded to the frame and rearend. Panhard bar in and caliper brackets welded to the 9". Also did the X brace to the rear section. Set the body back on to check everything out again. Looking good so far.

I finished the welder cart I've been working on off and on all summer, Paint was too wet last night to put the tanks in.
I took a battery out of an old tempo sitting by the shop and put in the Falcon, I got it to pop on starting fluid but the car has sat since 1993, so the next move is to drain the gas, and try some new gas. Worked on hanging the doors on my 54F100 project.
and finished Sunday off with a couple of Land Sharks and watched a movie with mrs jalopy.

Decided to forego Salina and took the tub to a little car show at our church. Kind of a draw to the big garage sale we were having to raise money for our annual school supply drive. We make sure area kids have everything they need to start the school year off. A couple years ago we surpassed the money needed to buy supplies and gave teachers gift cards with the extra money because we heard of some kids coming to school with worn out tennies and no coats in the dead of winter.

It's been a very rewarding work and greatly appreciated by the schools in the area.

Doesn't hurt for the public to see hot rodders involved in this type of thing either.

  27. I set up at a car show, where I sold a DVD set, a hubcap, and a carb spacer. Grand total: $29. Which I suppose makes it a break even on the spot cost and the gas.

It's bad when the $1 hotwheels cars aren't even selling.

But I don't know what happened with this show - it was just like the last AACA show I went to. People didn't show up who used to come all the time, the turnout was down by about 1/3rd or more. Maybe it's just the cost of gas.

But on the bright side I got to go swimming a bit after, then used my rain check from last month to go to the races on the way home. Now I just have to haul all the crap back out of my truck.

Snatched the froze 351W/C6 out and dropped in a freshened up 289/C4. Gonna work better for me. Money is funny these days and not in a good way. Even swap with a buddy.
