The Auto Museum in Balboa Park by the zoo. There is also a good aviation museum next to it. Gary

    Its great there enjoy yourself.
Get the local Trader as they usually have the swaps and stuff posted.
LA is a short drive if you dont hit traffic. Travel early. Stay off the 405 during Rush hour and Sunday Nights.
Its endless just spend some time searching.
When I lived there , was something going on ( Race , swap, show, cruise) all the time..

  8. Id go see the USS Midway, something aweful cool about an SR71 on the deck of a WWII Aircraft Carrier!

  10. I have lived here for 24 years and haven't even scratched the surface of all the cool places to go...the El Cajon cruise on Wednesdays is pretty good and Cruisin Grand in Escondido on Friday nights (some gold chainers but it's cool)

You could head up to Carlsbad and visit Dragmasters. They are still in bussines in their same location as a general auto repair shop. They are west of Interstate 5 on State street just north of Carlsbad Village Drive.

Hey let us know or come by El Cajon cruise night and hang out with the Lifters car club. We just had our big show at Barona this past weekend. It was a good show and a good time. We are always at El Cajon on wednesday. Look for a 1949 Ford club coupe in red oxide or a Lifters plaque.

hi- you could check out some of the old car clubs in San Diego- some of the oldest in the country are there- Pacific beach is good on a evening or Sunday- Point Loma is a Portuguese area- lots of good resturants- a drive over to Palm Springs thru the desert at night is nice-hope you enjoy yourself- Chuck

  16. All of the above suggestions are great....here's one more...buy yourself a Thomas Guide, look for all the 'squiggly-line roads' on the maps....drive as many of as you can and report back to us which ones you like the most.

The San Diego Maritime Museum has some fascinating displays, including one of the last "Square-Rigger" clipper ships still taken out to sea. They're within walking distance of the Midway and well worth a look.
Cruisin' Grand is pretty good. They have some very well done cars that show up there. One fellow even brings out his all-original 1935 Packard Limousine from time to time. NEAT car.
And, if you have an interest in early American industrial/farm equipment, then I'd recommend you check out the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum 2040 N. Santa Fe Avenue, Vista, CA 92083 http://www.agsem.com
There is some pretty interesting stuff there. I volunteer there on a near-weekly basis. If you do come up, shoot me a PM. I'd be happy to take you on a tour of the grounds. That goes for any other HAMBers in the area as well.

  18. Old Town is cool...check out Coyote Grill, PB is cool, El Cajon on wednesdays, cruisin Grand in Escondido on Friday nights, Julian is a little gold mine town in east county, casinos, Seaport Village, and the list goes on and on..Balboa Park has alot of cool museums, the Zoo, etc.

Car Cruises/Show's in La Mesa, and El Cajon every week (Wednesday & Thursday) I believe. They have car meet ups in a number of places on fridays, Escondido, Clairmont (in a few places), ect, but I can't remember the names locations off the top of my head I'd try calling a local shop.

Antique Drags @ Barona on Oct 4th is always a HUGE event.

    Auto Swap @ Qualcom - http://www.sandiegoautoswap.com/

There are a ton of great shops in SD, but I can't think of any with "cool" show rooms.

If you like diners, there is corvettes and studio diner. corvettes diner is pretty neat.. I haven't been to the new one since they moved.)

If you are visiting, Cabrillo National Monument is a must, so is Mount Soledad and Mount Helix. you can see almost all of san diego from those 3 points. I would check out Simpsons Nursery in Jamul. Its a family owned nursery spread over 25 acres. old cars and trucks all over the placed being used as planters and what not. They have 3 barns full of restored old cars, and on sundays they have car shows. I think they have a petting zoo. You have to take a drive to Julian. If you go, you have to get apple pie from Mom's pie shop in downtown Julian. Its basically an orgasm for your taste buds. If you like beer, go to alpine brewery. you can go on a tour and sample all the beer!
