I came across a factory rebuilt Mercury 312 Y block that has the rebuild tag on it and its the original mecury seafoam green. any idea what this motor is worth? I dont want to pay more then I need to for it... hank
I have no idea. I really dont know anything about Y blocks other then what I have found on the internet. I will post some pics. hank
How long ago was it rebuilt? how many miles on the rebuild? Does it run good? Does it smoke? So many questions that are unaswered here before you can get an honest response really. I think regardless of original or rebuilt.... I have picked up good merc 312's for 400-500. BUT would be willing to pay up to maybe 800 to 1,000. Anymore and I rebuild one myself. Price a rebuild kit and it see what they cost and you will see what I mean.
I dont know when it was rebuilt, but it was never run since then. I offered the guy $250 today at lunch and he took it, so regardless of what is what I would say I did ok! thanks for the info! hank
You got a DEAL.... I just paid 350 for a standard crank and a set of ECZ heads and felt like I was stealing them.
my dad has a complete lincoln motor 312 y block that runs that he would look atletting go for a reasonable price
LOL and you had to think about offering him too much? if it didn't run the core would most likely be worth that. One thing before you try and turn that motor over even by hand you had better pour some Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinders and let it soak for a while. Last thing you want to do is bust a ring land on a stuck piston.
Agree 100%! Also, if the carb was off you have to consider that at some point a rat or mouse could have made a nest in the manifold and such. And as far as the Lincoln Y block... it is totaly different than the ford/mercury... and a bitch to find speed equiptment for.
Ford did at one time back in the late 60,s and early 70,s have a jobber that rebuilt engines and auto trans for them. I can remember seeing their trucks on the road. I would buy a complete gasket set and dissassemble that 312 you know that the seals and gaskets have shrunk and dried out after all this time. OldWolf
great find. live in some 70 miles from you and just spun a bearing in my yblock 32 ford. interested in selling?
Ford has authorized rebuilders all over the US. Ford has sold rebuilts since the thirties that I know of. If your dealer says no, he is to young to know.
They can start at 200-1000 dpending on all kinds of things. Let me know if you need speed equipment for it I have everything you need for y-blocks
