I read this thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111548 and have found a '59 Gmc pickup that I can buy the front axle out from under. Is Chevy/Gmc the same as far as front brakes/spindles are concerned? Thanks
Yes All 55 to 59chevy and gmc straight axles are identical. You can use 1950 to 1954 chev car brake drums and hubs to obtain a 5 hole setup OldWolf
I ended up pulling it after work so that's encouraging. Right now I plan on keeping the stock wires (6 lug) but if I go for five lug now I know how. Thanks!
So I tried the spare tire/wheel from my '31 on the '59 truck axle and.......of course it doesn't fit. The outer edge of the drum hits the wheel befor the studs even start into thier holes in the wheel. Anyone tried running a spacer?, probably look weird. I may just end up running steel wheels, oh well, more tire options I guess.
