    Nope,a structural/hot rod/building/common sense enthusiast.

You know the old adage,"Why can we always do it a second time when doing it right the first time would've taken half the amount of time and money?"

Congrats on the stupidest comment in this thread.

to the comments on the car surviving a rollover like this, yea you see race car wrecks like this all the time, but if watch them closely, you'll notice no matter how much carnage and **** that flies off,the core of the car where the driver sits, generally stays in more or less one piece. this was the exception, which is why i can say just from the footage that this was a piss poor put together car. most drivers are concerned that they survive a wreck,so they can go home in one piece. therefore are very concerned that their car is put together right, then there are those who say who gives a ****, this guy was one of the latter.

The second time IS WHEN you do paint/body...after you mock it up, fit it, and prove it mechanically.

You paint cars as your going, and test-fitting everything?

    Don't scratch it....;)

    Tethers?!?! whuh?....

Yeah, you'll see lots of them on the rears of cars at the track...
Chains?! even better....people LOVE adding weight to they're drag cars....

Gezzz, guys, this is getting ridiculous, we're REALLY grasping at straws now, in this attempt to laugh at/criticise somebody elses car, don't you guys get to do that enough around here?

Maybe we should defend the loser that trashed a really desirable car that is now s****?
YouTube and the HAMB are in the public eye.

Wonders why this thread is inflamming certain people and what would be their relationship to the posted video?

well my opinion, yea they weigh a little but so does the rest of the safety gear. i was suggesting an idea, they usually use tethers today, because they are light, and absorb a lot of the energy stretching. i wasn't sure how old this clip was,but i've seen some older cars with short sections of chain tieing the rear end to the car.

  8. :D let's review...

i'm going to go out on a limb and guess this is his engine guy :)

So, what times was that car actually running? What's the tech on a 14 sec car? A seat bolted to the floor and seat belts? Bet they won't look to see what grade bolts are there. Once the seat moves, how the belts were installed or fastened will have little effect. Wouldn't doubt the seat started moving when he hit the rail, but certainly once it started rolling it was at least shifting around. Ever seen how much a factory floor pan moves when the car does a little twisting? Anyone want to speculate if the floor was original, rotted out, or a tacked in replacement? Maybe even the seat brackets failed and the bottoms were still attached to the floor.

In a few weeks, there will be a bunch of guys heading for the HAMB drags. I've been through tech inspection there. Wonder what the outcome of your HAMB friendly car hitting the rail and doing a barral roll would be? Pretty scarry I would think. Think your car would look different then this guy's car did? I think I would have been afraid to see what my 16 sec truck would have looked like after doing a series of rolls. It was a street truck and just wasn't built with the idea of rolling over.

I've been around dirt track racing for years spending a lot of time around the "stock" cl***es. The modern day factory built cars do not fair well in a single one time roll, the old cars are much worse. Put 2 or 3 of those rolls together and the driver needs to be "lucky". BTW, the roof on the old Chevy is still up, the roll cage did its job, that was all the drag roll cages are suppose to do.

Most of you guys need to go out and look at your car before you slam this guy's.

That was at Fremont Drag Strip. It was also featured in a Jackson Brothers film.

I'd like to point out to everyone that this accident also happened in the '60's, not really a period known for safety...

    Ummmm...yeah.
A blown Alcohol Funny-car ch***is. Thats the same as the rear axle on a street/strip Chevy.

I suppose I should clarify: The mention was of tethers on the REAR AXLE...

How about we just bubble-wrap the entire car?
Or maybe we don't allow any fans near the track, or, in fact, maybe no moving parts, after all, they DO tend to come apart, don't they?!
Ahhh, hell, no driver, too...screw it, if you wanna cover ALL bases, take up knitting...of course, you might get poked!:D

So...I guess you don't have to mock anything up?
Or you do that IN paint?

I'll take the extra time, myself...

Unless I was building a car where everything already fit perfectly...
Like one ordered from a catalog.

Its a bad word if it means YOU using modern parts on your car because they are superior...its a great buzz word to throw around in regards to someone elses car...:D

So many guys on here talking out of both sides of their mouth....

Now, with respect to this board, I will post no more on this silly thread...
No matter what the next flawed arguement, defending everyones ability to make themselves feel better, by criticising this guys poor, old car is.

Or even if some calls me a ****head...
