That's some serious race car you got yourself. Great story and well worth restoring this piece of history. Welcome to the HAMB!
thanks guys !!! didnt know how a 70 funny car story would fly on the site.second post so im a rookie on the site but i think il fit right in. thanks B.B for telling me about the site.
Clean up the body and make a mold! You'll sell them like hot cakes. Great find! Their 72 car had the scoop opening moving forward into the hood, so this would have been the baby blue paneled car.
Wow! Helluva find, man! Hope you can find more history on it soon. I agree with x--gasser- Build it and run it! Wonder if you could contact the likes of Big Daddy Don, maybe he could help with some history on the car. Whereabouts in IA are you from?
That's one hell of a car. Some people have all the luck. Good luck with the restore and look forward to seeing the updates. Chris
Unbelievable that you were able to track both the chassis and body down in two separate locations! That is too bitchin'! Keep us updated on the restoration. Welcome to the HAMB!
Kevin, Welcome aboard. That's such an interesting story on the find and marriage of the body and frame. You'll probably find all the info on the car right here on this site. Ya forgot to tell about driving for 22 hours with a $1000 cash and the rest in cashiers check for the body only to have the guy tell you cash only for the body. Driving another 22 hours back home to get the cash and driving back with the cash to pick up the body. Obviously well worth the extra time. By the way that was an extremely nice bucket that you built and sent me pictures of. Brandon
Holy sheep shet, nice find. This site's got plenty of old floppers. Maybe something there... www.70sfunnycars.com/
I'd like to hear a little more detail about the find. Maybe how you got to the body from the guy in Ind to Mich. How you convinced him to let it go, etc. You know, the stuff the rest of us dream about.
WELCOME to the HAMB! Is Bruce Larson on the HAMB, if not there are HAMB members that live close to him, he may have some info on the car, may have raced against it. Great story, good luck with the restoration.

This FJ Holden funny car from Oz is a similar happy reunion of body and chassis after way-too-long. Originally owned by Wild Bill Smith, it was known as 'The World's Fastest FJ' and was a landmark car for Aussie drag racing. At some stage in its history, the car was parted out and Randal Mohr got his hands on the chassis. He fitted it with an altered body, a supercharged six and had some fun. He finally convinced the owner of the body to part ways with it, so the car could be made whole once more and the history preserved. Randal has fitted the car with an injected small block and the car has been tech inspected and made its shakedown passes. The car will return to the limelight at the Nostalgia Nationals in Brisbane, 17 August. All the orginal signwriting is intact and it looks pretty much like it just rolled out of the shed. Woo hoo!
