Big John made the trip out to Bonneville with us last year and told us all about his 37 Ford coupe. Seems he has been holding it captive in his garage for 34 years trying to build it but life has kept it from being done. Well that trip fired him up and he wants his baby finished. A couple weeks ago he dropped off a couple pickup loads of parts and his coupe. We have patched the cowl, doors and quarters and fixed the trunk area. Lined up the doors and deck lid and that took some work because she was hit in the p***enger side pretty good some time in it's life. Put lowering blocks in the rear and in the progress of rebuilding the mustang 2 and giving it two inch dropped spindles. This is a fun build and it's great to see how excited he gets when he stops by to check it out. We have everything we need so far for the build but we are looking for a nice p***enger side back fender if anyone knows of any. The one that he got with the car is two different fenders put together and they aren't even close. How about some pics
Man that is too nice to keep hidden away. I have a mate that has had a 41 Willys convert (Aussie body) half built in his shop since the early 80s. Someone painted a finish date on the hood one year, its been crossed out and the next year painted on. Goes right around from one side of the hood to the other now.
Always happy to see another 37 on the road! Those rear fenders are hard to find. They pop up on ebay once in a while.. Great project. Tell Big John I put this on the road in 6 months after I bought it 8 years ago. Heres some pictures after last winters bodywork and paint. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v11/petejoe/1937%20Ford%20Coupe/1937coupe%20repaint/
petejoe, great pics, your car's awesome, that look is close to what Jr's trying to do for me - he's gonna PM you with some questions - he's right in his post about life getting in the way, i have had this car for 34 years, lotsa excuses (as you can see in the pics some of my "buddies" have detailed in marker in the decklid)too small garage, not enough time, not enough $, many years involved in sports with my kids, college tuitions, now an expanded "corporate" job, etc. - i can't possibly thank Junior, Scary Larry and Roland enough, for what they are doing for me, when complete (in less than 3 months, they tell me!) this will be the culmination of a 34 year dream - also thanks to my wife, for every time we got in a money jam, i threatened to sell it to help out but she'd never let me - i'm gonna owe my friends above forever!!! - BIG JOHN
So is this car going to make the trek to Bonneville next year John??? I had better slap something together for myself to go in if it is...
Glad to see you realize your dream! thanks for the compliment. I'll be happy to share in my mistakes, give a yell anytime. PJ
aaron - that was the greatest trip of my lifetime - love to go again (driving) with my friends, i'll start working on a "permission slip" right away - still so happy i got to see The Atomic Punk under construction at your house, one of the highlights - best to you my friend - BIG JOHN
Stopped by Juniors to do some engine work, and low and behold there was your car. It's going to be awesome when you finally get in and drive that thing. Long time coming.
thanks mikey, congrats on the new roof over your head, Jr. said we might need your help on this, just to look it over, and on initial fire up - thanks in advance - jp
