It was to much fun! I did almost run a kid down at the races but other than that...

 

I notice quite a few early custom style tri-five Chevy's. Don't see that too often. Looks good.

 

Is this green one a 1950-ish Chrysler? I'm loving it!

Hey Ben,

It is a Mercury that David Guymon built. I believe it was Davids first chop top and he put in
the Caddy grill. This is one of my favorite kustoms of all time. Jim Baker is the owner and
he drives it every where. I was shock to see it without skirts and the Caddy caps. Jim
thought that it would be kool to run it this way for a change ......

This has to be the straightest Merc I've seen in a LONG time. Bonus points that they gave all that attention to a four door.

"Screw a bunch of 'shock & awe' let's just build a nice car" - great theory. More should suscribe.

This one is a killer. Would love to see more.

Hey thanks guys. This was the first custom I put together many years ago. Here are a couple of pics of what I started w/ back in about '89. Mercury Charlie built a 4-door and I got what was left which is what you see here. Basically the parts car. After help from alot of friends w/ parts and pieces, I drove this car for many years. First flathead power I drove it for about 10-12 years and a few years back decided to put a 327 and 700R in her so I could really hit it all over the country. Gary Howard freshened her up for me the second time around w/ new paint,flush mounted fender skirts, rounded hood corners and some rear suspension work. He straighten out everything I had screwed up many years ago when first putting her together in addition to all the road rash she had endured during here first dozen years. It is a sweet 4 door. Understated and mild. That's how I like my customs and Gary really knows how to execute. Here's one more shot of the front end after it's second coming w/ my one off custom grill bar and the rounded corners.

 

El Jefe...who painted it? Beautiful cars, man.

 

I've always liked the Merc, one reason because it is not chopped and a four door.
Kustoms don't have to be Chopped to be kool and Steve's Mercury is a good example.
Stance is everything.

Checkout the tailights. I had to make my pictures brighter to see them but they are
way too kool. They are an inverted late 70's Chrysler taillight. You've got to see them
in person to get the full effect.

That Edsel-fronted Ranchero creation is CLEAN. I've seen that posted around before and each time I can't take my eyes off of it. Does that belong to someone on here?

 

The truck belongs to Floyd Dutton form Harrah Ok. Not a HAMBer but a huge
kustom nut. Floyds attention to detail is unreal. The Rancero even has the Edsel
Dash. Currently he is working on a chopped Edsel wagon. Been working on it for
years. Knowing Floyd it is going to be drop dead Kool......

 

The tail lights looked like our Lady of Guadalupe could of been standing in there.They are way cool,now I know what they are.Beautiful car,spent some time looking at it.

 

I wish that Steve didn't tell me what they were off of. It blew my Kustoms mind!
Have you ever looked at a back side of a tailight to see what it would look like on
a car?

 

Thanks for the info! It's a perfect car! I didn't have much time to check out the photo, and figured if I just asked, someone would fill me in. It's very sharp, perfect chop, love the headlights, and the grille rules!

Baker's car has been on the road almost 2 decades. Pictures really don't do the car justice. I can't believe it's never been in print. Definitely on my short list of favorite customs. Rikster's site has some more photos of it.

 

I'd like to thank the KKOA for such a great time.You have to hand it to them,they bring in a wide variety of cars,something for everybody's tastes.
